Marvel Studios debuted its second Avengers: Doomsday trailer on Friday at Disney’s D23 fan convention in Anaheim, California. The two-minute preview showcases Robert Downey Jr. as Doctor Doom confronting a sprawling multiverse of heroes ahead of the film’s December 18 theatrical release.
The highly anticipated footage was introduced at the D23 fan convention by Downey alongside MCU veterans Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell. The trailer largely mirrors the sneak peek shown during Marvel Studios’ Hall H panel at San Diego Comic-Con in July, bringing together heroes from three distinct universes to face the Latverian villain.
Robert Downey Jr.’s Doctor Doom Faces Off Against Reed Richards and Thor
The narrative conflict centers on a broken and vengeful Victor Von Doom. In the footage, Vanessa Kirby’s Sue Storm warns Earth’s mightiest heroes about the threat, telling them she did not realize how broken he had become following the loss of everything he loved.
The tension escalates rapidly across ruined cityscapes. Pedro Pascal’s Reed Richards confronts Doom directly amid heaps of rubble, shouting in the villain’s face and gripping his green cloak. Doom rebuffs the heroes with a stark declaration regarding their existence.
“All of you have lived stolen lives. But now you must give them back.”
Doctor Doom
Chris Hemsworth’s Thor attempts to strike Doom with his axe Stormbreaker, but Doom easily blocks the blow, blasts the Norse god with green energy, and defeats him in combat. Following the defeat of Thor, Doom activates an army of mutant-hunting Sentinels, issuing a final warning to the assembled pantheon.
“Hell answers to me, for I am Doom.”

Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell Discuss Steve Rogers’ Return
The D23 presentation also brought back familiar faces from earlier phases of the MCU. Chris Evans and Hayley Atwell joked on stage about their characters’ apparent departure in 2019’s Avengers: Endgame, where Steve Rogers traveled back in time to share a life with Peggy Carter.

“Now, we know that there’s nothing this crowd loves more than a happy ever after. And Steve Rogers was so close to getting his at the end of Avengers: Endgame. We should’ve known better.”

Fans should expect a difficult road ahead for the patriotic hero. Speaking at an appearance at Boston Fan Expo, Evans noted that directors Anthony and Joe Russo enjoy pushing Steve Rogers through physical trials.
“The Russos love beating up Steve Rogers. Their favorite thing to do is to just beat the crap out of him. To them that’s what makes a hero, and that’s someone who gets punched so many times but still gets up. They keep finding new ways to kick his butt, but this one was brutal, and a really, really good examination into his nature and his values. I’ll say… it’s probably something you haven’t seen yet, but you will.”

Multiverse Convergence and the Fox X-Men Integration
The upcoming blockbuster unites characters from three distinct universes: the main Avengers timeline, the world of the Fantastic Four, and the historic 20th Century Fox X-Men film universe. Disney’s acquisition of Fox brings several veteran mutant actors into the official MCU continuity.

The Road to December and Secret Wars
As production and promotional rollouts advance toward the December 18 theatrical release date, the film occupies a critical junction in the broader Marvel timeline. Doomsday is slated to lead directly into the events of next year’s sequel, Avengers: Secret Wars, arriving in 2027.
