Xiaomi Ends Software Support and HyperOS Updates for 10 Devices

Xiaomi has officially expanded its End of Life device list, ending software support and HyperOS updates for 10 popular smartphones and tablets.

Smart phone lifecycles are shrinking in the rearview mirror as manufacturers pivot toward extended software commitments. For owners of several popular Xiaomi, Redmi, and Poco devices, that shift has now arrived as a hard stop. The manufacturer updated its official End of Life list, dropping software support for 10 distinct hardware models. The company regularly updates the so-called End of Life (EOL) list, and ten more devices from the Xiaomi, Redmi, and Poco brands have just been added to it, trust.mi.com points out.

While the hardware will not brick itself overnight, the manufacturer’s decision marks the official close of functional evolution for these devices. Users will no longer see updates for the HyperOS system, performance enhancements, or newly developed software features. If your phone is among them, the smartphone will continue to make calls, launch applications, or connect to the internet.

Which Xiaomi and Poco Devices Are Affected by the End of Life Cutoff

The newly unsupported roster spans several generations of mobile hardware released primarily across 2022 and 2023. For example, the Xiaomi 12 series debuted as early as the end of 2021 in China, but arrived on global markets only during March 2022. Poco X5 models arrived in February 2023 and the Redmi Note 12T Pro saw the light of day in June of the same year. According to regional reporting, the update covers multiple tiers ranging from flagship entries to budget devices.

Other models have now appeared in the list of unsupported phones from Xiaomi, specifically the Xiaomi 12 Lite, Xiaomi 12S Pro, and REDMI Note 12R. The Xiaomi 12 Lite was one of the last lightened phones of the flagship series and appeared on the market in 2022. It received software support at the 3+4 level, meaning three years of major updates and 4 years of security patches, and this period has now ended. Interestingly, the Xiaomi 12S Pro is also on the list, which belongs to the series that first brought Xiaomi cameras created in cooperation with Leica to the market.

Security Vulnerabilities and the Reality of Unpatched Android Hardware

An expired support cycle does not mean a sudden hardware failure. Affected devices will continue to make calls, run installed applications, and connect to cellular and Wi-Fi networks.

The critical difference lies in defense mechanisms against evolving threats. The manufacturer will no longer fix newly discovered security bugs, and if attackers discover a serious vulnerability, a fix will no longer reach these models. Similarly, users can say goodbye to new features of the HyperOS system. For this reason, it is recommended to approach sensitive data cautiously with such phones and slowly consider replacing them with a new model.

Shifting Industry Standards and Longer Update Policies

The devices now losing support generally received roughly three to four years of official lifecycle attention. By today’s standards, this may seem short, but at the time of their introduction, it was a common length of support from Xiaomi.

In the meantime, the manufacturer has significantly changed its update policy. Newer smartphones receive support for substantially longer, with Xiaomi promising up to six years of updates including four major versions of the Android system for selected flagship models. However, this change came only in 2025, after the introduction of the devices that are now reaching the end of their lifespan. Other manufacturers have chosen a similar strategy, with Samsung offering six to seven years of support for its most expensive models and Google also significantly extending the update period for Pixel phones.
