Following a car bomb and simultaneous explosives attack targeting the Norte de Santander police command in Cúcuta on August 1, 2026, the Colombian government has announced a reward of up to 200 million dollars for information leading to the capture of the responsible parties.
The violent early-morning assault struck the regional police headquarters around 4:00 a.m. on Saturday, August 1, 2026. The blasts injured at least eight police officers and three civilians, all of whom were rushed to nearby medical centers for treatment. The attack also killed Negra, a dog that had accompanied the police command unit for eight years. Beyond the human and animal toll, the explosions shattered nearby residences and disrupted normal commercial operations at the city’s Central Food Market.

In response to the security crisis, the national government established a reward of up to $200 million for verified information leading to the identification and capture of the perpetrators. Minister of Defense Pedro Sánchez condemned the incidents and attributed the coordinated assaults to members of the ELN.
