Ahead of an upcoming September event, code discovered in watchOS 27 and iOS 27 betas has revealed four key features planned for the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4, according to a post by MacRumors forum member “pdfu.” The findings outline additions ranging from a dedicated recovery app to upgraded internal hardware.

The leaked code details an all-new separate application referred to as “Readiness.” Distinct from the existing Vitals app, the watchOS 27 default Home Screen layout places the Readiness app immediately after the Workout app, while the iOS 27 companion app references the same placement logic. This positioning suggests Apple is preparing a more comprehensive recovery and readiness experience for users.
In addition to software additions, the code points to richer health infrastructure for strength workouts. The system is designed to store individual sets, repetition counts, weight, equipment, body side, and duration. Furthermore, beta code references a new optical-sensing hardware family called “Sunstone4p0.” This sensor features lower noise coefficients and wrist- and orientation-based channel selection, which could improve heart-sensing readings when a reflected pulse signal is weak.
Finally, a NAND storage profile tied to the T8320 chip suggests that both the Apple Watch Series 12 and Apple Watch Ultra 4 could offer 128GB of storage, doubling the 64GB capacity found on previous models.
