Apple Sets Daily Usage Limits for Siri AI and Intelligent Photo Tools

Apple confirmed Wednesday that certain Siri AI and Apple Intelligence features will be subject to daily usage limits. The company announced these restrictions in a new support article and within the fine print of announcements regarding the Apple Watch Ultra 4 and Apple Watch Series 12.

Server-Side Limitations and Paid Access

The daily caps apply specifically to features that rely on server-side models. According to Apple, these include Siri AI, Image Playground, and intelligent photo editing tools—specifically Spatial Reframing, Extend, and Clean Up. Additionally, the Apple Foundation Model (AFM) 3 Cloud and AFM 3 Cloud Pro models used within the Shortcuts app are subject to these limits.

Apple stated that once a user reaches these limits, the affected features will become unavailable for a period of time before access is restored. While the company has not provided a numerical daily allowance or a specific reset timetable, it noted that limits may vary based on system demand, system policies, request complexity, and the specific feature being used.

To bypass these restrictions, Apple confirmed that expanded access will be available for a fee in the future. While specific pricing and launch timing remain unknown, Apple previously stated at WWDC that higher iCloud+ tiers will include expanded access to these limited features.

Siri AI Launch and Restrictions

Siri AI is scheduled to launch on September 14 alongside iOS 27, iPadOS 27, macOS 27 Golden Gate, watchOS 27, and visionOS 27. Despite the public release, the assistant will retain a separate beta designation. The updated assistant is designed to retrieve personal information from photos, notes, messages, and emails, and can perform actions in apps like Reminders, Music, and Messages.

The launch is accompanied by several availability restrictions:

  • Language: Initially available only in English, with support for Spanish, Portuguese, Korean, Japanese, and French scheduled for October 2026.
  • Regional: Siri AI will not initially be available in mainland China. In the European Union, the assistant will be available on Apple Vision Pro and Mac, but will be withheld from the Apple Watch, iPad, and iPhone.
  • Age: The service will not be available to users under the age of 13.

Additionally, code discovered in August suggests Apple may use a launch waitlist to regulate demand based on available server capacity, though the company has not confirmed if this will be implemented. New iPhone and Apple Watch models are expected to arrive on September 18.

Usage Terms and Enforcement

Apple’s new Apple Intelligence Usage Terms outline the company’s right to restrict, throttle, or suspend access for unreasonable use. This includes use that is fraudulent, illegal, automated, abusive, or excessive, particularly if it materially impacts other users or service availability. Apple will determine unreasonable use based on patterns of use, frequency, volume, and request complexity.

The company also detailed how Apple Intelligence integrates with home cameras via iCloud+ plans. Video summaries in the Home app are limited by the following subscription tiers:

  • 2 TB plan: Up to 1 camera
  • 6 TB plan: Up to 2 cameras
  • 12 TB plan: Up to 5 cameras

Expanded Capabilities in iOS 27

Beyond the AI limits, iOS 27 introduces a new “iPhone Handoff” feature, allowing users to switch between two iPhones that share the same phone number. Apple is also implementing writing tools for revising or drafting text, customizable voices, and visual searches through the Camera app. Some of these capabilities rely on server processing and may also be subject to the undisclosed usage limits.
