Macklemore Dropped From Ed Sheeran Tour Following Pro-Palestine Remarks
Following the remarks, the Israeli American Council launched a petition calling for Macklemore’s removal. Rolling Stone reported that Messina Touring Group, the promoter of the United States leg of Sheeran’s tour, confirmed Macklemore’s removal from eight planned subsequent dates. The promoter stated that venues on the upcoming tour dates notified them that they would not allow a concert to take place with Macklemore on the lineup, which would have resulted in the cancellation of the tour and impacted hundreds of thousands of fans.
Robert Kraft and Venue Opposition
Macklemore stated on Instagram that he was dropped after Robert Kraft, the billionaire owner of the New England Patriots and Gillette Stadium, mounted a pressure campaign against Sheeran, according to Rolling Stone. Macklemore claimed that Sheeran informed him Kraft said he would not be allowed to perform in his stadium, and that Kraft had rallied other stadium owners to issue an ultimatum.
Kraft confirmed in his own statement that he made the decision to bar Macklemore from performing at Gillette Stadium. According to WJAR, Kraft stated that the decision resulted from Macklemore’s recent actions, material shared from the stage during the New Jersey shows, and a broader history of antisemitic rhetoric and imagery that he believed was deeply offensive and hurtful to the Jewish community.

Sheeran stated that Macklemore coming off the tour was the promoter’s decision and not his own, The Guardian reported. Sheeran wrote that he spoke with venues at length to try to build a bridge, but the venue and promoter decisions were final. He added that he would not let down fans or abandon his touring crew and other support acts who rely on him for work.
Sheeran expressed that he is appalled by the conflict between Israel and Palestine
and called the suffering on both sides a human tragedy. While stating that he respects Macklemore’s strength of purpose, Sheeran explained that he chooses not to speak publicly because people who attend his shows do not expect a political forum, aiming instead to keep his platform a place of safety and sanctuary.
Tour Resume and Replacements
The stadium tour is set to resume, with Lukas Graham and institution acts now on the bill for the remaining dates, according to WJAR. Macklemore was originally scheduled to appear at eight of the 10 remaining shows on the U.S. leg of the tour.
