Police and emergency services flooded the area, parking roughly 30 vehicles including fire engines, ambulances, and police cruisers in the nearby village of Fairford while a helicopter circled above.

The police operation was not intelligence-led, meaning investigators had no advance warning of a potential plot. Counter-terrorism units took charge of the probe as the army’s specialist explosive ordnance disposal team deployed a remote-operated robot to examine suspicious vans parked in the village.

Residents across Whelford woke up to heavy police activity in the early hours of Sunday morning. Authorities established a strict cordon and evacuated local homeowners to a nearby leisure centre, though police later reassured the public that the situation was contained.
