San Francisco 49ers owner Jed York was arrested in East Palestine, Ohio, on Sunday during a law enforcement sting operation and subsequently pleaded no contest to reduced misdemeanor charges of disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools, court records show.
East Palestine Arrest and Misdemeanor Plea Deal
San Francisco 49ers principal owner Jed York was arrested at 9:35 a.m. on Sunday at a mobile home park near the Pennsylvania border in East Palestine, Ohio. Court records indicate that authorities with the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force, assisted by the East Palestine Police Department, carried out the operation.
York, 46, was initially booked on suspicion of engaging in prostitution and disorderly conduct, according to Columbiana County Municipal Court records. He was released later that day after posting a $5,000 bond.
By Monday morning, prosecutors amended the initial prostitution charge to a count of disorderly conduct. York pleaded no contest to both disorderly conduct and possessing criminal tools. Under Ohio law, a no contest plea admits the truth of the facts alleged in the charge without serving as a formal admission of guilt, allowing the court to enter a judgment and sentence.
According to NFL.com, York was sentenced to one day in jail for each offense to be served concurrently. Because he received credit for the day already spent in custody following his weekend arrest, his jail sentence was satisfied. He was also ordered to pay $1,150 in fines and complete an online course.
Task Force Operation and Seized Assets
Affidavits signed by an agent with the Mahoning Valley Human Trafficking Task Force stated that York responded to an online advertisement on a prostitution website and arranged to have sexual activity with a female in exchange for $140. He was taken into custody immediately upon arriving at the meeting location in the Wheat Hill Mobile Home Community.
During the sting, law enforcement seized $160 in cash from York along with his cellphone. As part of the plea agreement, the $160 was ordered forfeited to the human trafficking task force, while York’s cellular device—which court documents noted was used to arrange the criminal act—was ordered returned to him.
Concurrent Divorce Proceedings in California
Hours after the details of the Ohio arrest emerged, public attention also turned to ongoing family court proceedings in California. Court documents show that York filed for divorce from his wife of more than 15 years, Danielle Belluomini York, in Santa Clara County Superior Court.
The filing, submitted on May 11, cited irreconcilable differences
as the grounds for dissolving the marriage. Danielle York filed a response on June 30 moving likewise to dissolve the marriage, and the case remains pending as the couple awaits a court date.
The couple has agreed to legal and physical joint custody of their two school-age children, but the separation of property and assets has yet to be finalized.
NFL Review and Historical Precedent
The National Football Conference franchise and the league office responded swiftly to the weekend developments.
Simultaneously, the league office confirmed that the incident would be examined under internal regulations. An NFL spokesperson stated, We are aware of the matter which will be reviewed under the personal conduct policy.
The policy applies to owners as well as players, coaches, and league personnel, and permits disciplinary review independent of a criminal conviction.
Legal analysts and sports commentators noted parallels to the 2019 arrest of New England Patriots owner Robert Kraft, who faced misdemeanor solicitation charges in Florida that were ultimately dropped after a court suppressed surveillance evidence. While Kraft avoided league discipline after those charges were dismissed, York enters this review having entered a no contest plea to two reduced misdemeanor counts.
