Zaporizhzhia and Kyiv Strikes Kill 12 Amid Ballistic Missile Onslaught
Russian forces launched a coordinated wave of missile and drone attacks across multiple Ukrainian regions, pushing the national death toll to 12 people over a 24-hour period according to regional officials. In the southeastern city of Zaporizhzhia, strikes by ballistic missiles and aerial bombs killed six individuals and wounded 20 others, regional governor Ivan Fedorov reported.
Metinvest, a major mining and metals corporation operating in Zaporizhzhia, stated that seven of its steel plant employees died as workers scrambled to reach shelters after a warning of an incoming ballistic missile. The strike damaged a blast furnace and other equipment and forced the plant to shut down.
Meanwhile, strikes in the capital city of Kyiv triggered major fires in central warehouse districts and hit the grounds of a children’s hospital.
Zelensky Alleges Moscow Relies on Pyongyang for Ballistic Missiles and Troops
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky used the strikes to condemn Moscow’s deepening military dependence on North Korea, asserting that Russia is no longer capable of waging its war independently. In an overnight address, Zelensky alleged that the projectiles used in the recent urban bombardments were North Korean-supplied ballistic missiles.
The partnership builds on a strategic mutual aid pact signed by Russian President Vladimir Putin and North Korean leader Kim Jong Un in 2024. Expanding beyond munitions, Zelensky claimed that Moscow is seeking an additional 30,000 troops from Pyongyang, with preparations to receive the personnel reportedly underway in Russia’s Voronezh region since June.
Zelensky further warned that battlefield cooperation provides North Korea with invaluable combat experience that threatens wider security. The Ukrainian leader noted that as North Korean weapons and soldiers are utilized in Europe, they correct their shortcomings and blind spots, multiplying the long-term danger for South Korea, Japan, the Philippines, and the wider Asian region.
Simultaneous Drone Attacks Ignite Logistics Hubs Inside Russia
Cross-border drone activity also escalated inside Russian territory, where regional authorities and corporate representatives confirmed that falling debris triggered fires at logistics facilities belonging to online retailer Wildberries, often dubbed Russia’s Amazon
. Voronezh regional governor Alexander Gusev stated that air defense units intercepted 15 drones over the city and five surrounding districts.

Military analysts tracking the conflict note that Russia’s intensified reliance on ballistic missiles is calculated to exploit Kyiv’s critical shortage of Patriot air defense interceptors. The Institute for the Study of War assessed that Patriot deficits will allow Moscow to inflict severe infrastructure damage over the coming winter months.
Simultaneously, the Russian Defence Ministry claimed control over several contested settlements, including Shcherbakivka in the Kharkiv region and Nove Pole in Zaporizhzhia, though those territorial claims could not be independently verified. Analysts warn that meaningful peace negotiations remain distant as long as Moscow pursues a purely military path to its objectives.
