The celebrity roster for the upcoming autumn competition is officially complete. Melanie Walters rounds out the 15-person cast, bringing her decades-long television and stage career to the BBC One ballroom. The final announcement arrived via official social media channels, setting the stage for a series that brings substantial changes to both its presenting team and professional dancing lineup.

Melanie Walters Swaps Pantomime for the Ballroom Floor

Best known for playing the mild-mannered Gwen West in the BBC sitcom Gavin & Stacey—a role she reprised in the 2024 Christmas special—Walters revealed that joining the dance competition required stepping away from her usual festive tradition. The 64-year-old Swansea-born actor has spent the last 15 years performing in pantomime.

“Performing pantomime for the last 15 years, my Strictly ‘fix’ has always been watching in a dressing room rather than my front room. This year I am completely thrilled and happy to swap my fairy wand for sequinned dance shoes.”

Walters added that she hopes to avoid any mishaps on the steps, noting, I just hope I don’t follow Cinderella and leave one on the Ballroom stairs. Her extensive credits span television appearances in Coronation Street, Doc Martin, and Beyond Paradise, alongside film roles in Submarine and Save the Cinema.

The Full 2026 Celebrity Line-up and Returning Faces

Walters completes a diverse roster of 15 contestants announced over the summer months. Among them is EastEnders star Lacey Turner, who has played Stacey Slater since 2004 and led the BBC drama series Our Girl. Turner noted that she was eager to learn a new skill rather than watch from home.

Also joining the cast is television personality Dani Dyer, who was originally scheduled to compete last year before an injury forced her to withdraw. I just cannot wait to get my dancing shoes back on and hopefully this time around I can actually make it to week one, Dyer shared with her fans.

International representation comes from Australian singer and former Neighbours actor Delta Goodrem, who finished fourth at the Eurovision Song Contest earlier this year and previously served as a judge on The Voice Australia. Celebrity hair stylist Chris Appleton, known for his work with clients including Jennifer Lopez and Kim Kardashian, joins the cast after returning to the UK.

The 2026 series brings significant structural changes alongside the celebrity reveals. Longtime hosts Tess Daly and Claudia Winkleman have departed, making way for a new trio of presenters: Emma Willis, Josh Widdicombe, and Johannes Radebe.
