Criminal Organizations Target Tel Aviv and Holon in Grenade Attacks

Police report that criminals are increasingly using standard military fragmentation grenades.

A fresh wave of underworld violence tied to organized crime feuds has prompted intensified police investigations across multiple cities. The ongoing conflict between rival crime organizations has driven perpetrators to deploy military-grade explosives in civilian areas, according to law enforcement reporting detailing the recent grenade attacks.

Explosives Thrown at Tel Aviv and Holon Residences

The latest incident occurred in the early morning hours when an explosive device was thrown at a residential building in the Kiryat Shalom neighborhood of south Tel Aviv. Police officers from the Sharat station in the Ayalon region launched an immediate investigation, suspecting the attack stemmed from ongoing dominance struggles between criminal networks that have heavily strained law enforcement resources in recent months. Authorities confirmed that no suspects had been detained immediately following the blast.

This event follows a series of similar attacks in the region. In Holon, a fragmentation grenade was thrown near a residential building on Tsvi Tadmor Street, causing property damage but no injuries. Investigators noted that the residents of the targeted building appear normative, leaving the precise motive and intended target unclear.

The outlet reported that the same Holon address had been targeted twice previously last month, signaling a severe criminal dispute involving at least one occupant of the building. In a separate Tel Aviv incident, a standard military stun grenade was discovered inside the courtyard of a luxury high-rise in Ramat Aviv G’ before it could detonate, prompting a rapid response from the Yarkon region police and bomb disposal units.

Underworld Economics and the Flow of Military Ordinance

Law enforcement analysis highlights how accessible these weapons have become to criminal syndicates. Standard military fragmentation grenades are reportedly acquired on the black market for approximately 2,000 shekels. Perpetrators then hire young operatives—often 18 or 19 years old—to carry out the attacks for a comparable fee, allowing major criminal figures to sow widespread panic for a relatively low financial outlay.

You have to understand that a fragmentation grenade is sold outside today for an amount of about 2,000 shekels, and in order to throw it, you need to pay a similar amount to an 18- or 19-year-old mercenary… and as long as there is the leakage of grenades from IDF bases, it will be hard to prevent this. The persistent leakage of ordnance from military facilities has fueled the crisis. Beyond the Tel Aviv and Holon incidents, police responded to a separate morning event in Hadera, where an unexploded fragmentation grenade was discovered on the door of a commercial complex near a gas station before bomb disposal experts safely neutralized it.

Administrative Restrictions and Ongoing Police Response

As detectives comb through security footage and forensic evidence across multiple active crime scenes, the judicial system is taking parallel measures. The Tel Aviv District Court recently issued a 37-day administrative restriction order against organized crime figure Yossi Mossi, while police signaled intentions to pursue additional restriction orders against other associates from both sides of the ongoing feud.
