Ventspils Motoclub Rodeo Wins 14th Team Championship Title

Ventspils motoclub Rodeo secured its 14th team championship title in 27 years after a decisive final round in Stelpe. The victory capped a dramatic season across Latvian and Baltic competitions, overcoming fierce rivalry from the Motosport Racing Team.

The Latvian motocross season concluded with the Ventspils-based team capturing the overall club standings. According to the club, the championship marked the 14th time the organization claimed the top spot across its 27-year history, reflecting long-term consistency in regional competition.

The Decisive Battle in Stelpe Against Motosport Racing Team

Securing the title required overcoming a persistent points deficit against rivals. Club leadership noted that the campaign went down to the wire during the final stretch of the calendar.

Arvis Sanders, head of the club, stated that it is always pleasing to close out a season on a positive note, especially when it is a victory in the club standings, adding that they were in fierce competition with the Motosport Racing Team, which had been slightly ahead in accumulated points throughout the season, and that the Stelpe round became the decisive moment where their athletes—both young and experienced—proved that MX Rodeo is the best club.

The championship fight also saw intense individual battles unfold across Madona during the third round of the Latvian and Baltic championships, where the Ventspils squad first established its winning momentum in the team classification before the final showdown.

Individual Standouts and Class Victories Across the Roster

Individual performances anchored the team’s success throughout the calendar. In the youth divisions, Rūdolfs Spila achieved his primary goal by taking the victory in the MX65 class. Additional success came in the younger categories during regional events, including an Aloja round where Kristers Treimanis-Freimanis took second place in the 65cc J class, Rūdolfs Spila placed second in the 85cc J class, Gregs Laguta claimed first place in the 85cc V class, and Arvis Sanders finished third in the MX55+ class.

In higher-displacement divisions, seventeen-year-old Markuss Kokins dominated the MX2 class by sweeping major regional titles to become the Estonian, Baltic, and Latvian champion. Kokins also secured a dominant victory in the MX1 class during the Baltic championship’s second round in Biržai, Lithuania, though a mechanical failure in the first moto at Madona halted a potential sweep there after he had initially won both the qualifying session and the second moto.

Meanwhile, Edvards Bidzāns navigated an injury-plagued campaign to capture the Baltic championship crown in the MX1 class alongside a bronze medal in the Latvian national standings. At the Madona round, Bidzāns claimed first place in MX1, while teammate Kaarel Tilk finished third in the same class and Bruno Geitus secured a victory in the 65cc division.

Reflections From Leadership and Next Steps for the Off-Season

Club management emphasized that the championship was forged through endurance, shared support, and occasional fortune rather than talent alone.

Arvis Sanders, head of the club, noted that this season brought many emotions and events—ranging from victories to setbacks that exhausted everyone by the end of the season—but emphasized that their team spirit and mutual support made this success possible, adding that motocross is not solely about talent and experience, as luck also plays a significant role that they must account for and live with.

Although the primary national calendar has concluded, the team’s schedule remains active with upcoming commercial events. Management credited the broader community for sustaining the multi-decade winning tradition.

Arvis Sanders, head of the club, expressed deep gratitude as club leader to the families of all athletes for their invested time, emotions, and finances, as well as to the mechanics and supporters, emphasizing that they are all like one big family and that working together is the most important thing to him.
