Krafton India has confirmed that Indiantelevision will launch in India by the end of 2026. The new title is intended to expand the battle royale franchise’s reach by providing an entry point for a wider pool of mobile gamers, specifically those using budget or older smartphones that may struggle to run the standard version of the game smoothly.
According to the company, BGMI Lite will sit alongside the existing Battlegrounds Mobile India (BGMI) rather than replacing it. Krafton stated that the announcement represents a focus on making the BGMI experience accessible to a larger community within India’s growing gaming ecosystem.
Targeting Entry-Level Hardware
While Krafton has not yet disclosed official system requirements, technical specifications, or supported devices, the “Lite” branding suggests a focus on accessibility. The game is expected to target users with limited RAM, storage, or processing capabilities. This strategy follows a trend where some smartphone manufacturers have reduced the inclusion of high-capacity RAM in new devices due to a global chip shortage, according to The Times of India.
For context, the standard version of BGMI has different hardware needs depending on the source: one report states it requires at least 2GB of RAM, while another notes a minimum of 1.5GB of RAM and an Adreno 306 or higher GPU. The company has indicated that further details on technical requirements and supported devices will be revealed closer to the launch date.
Lessons from PUBG Mobile Lite
Although Krafton has not confirmed if BGMI Lite will follow the exact model of its predecessors, industry expectations and previous titles like PUBG Mobile Lite offer potential clues. PUBG Mobile Lite, which launched in July 2019 for entry-level Android smartphones, was built using Unreal Engine 4 and was designed to run on devices with approximately 500MB of storage and 1GB of RAM.
Gameplay in the previous Lite version differed from the full experience, featuring shorter matches that generally lasted around 10 minutes, compared to roughly 25 minutes in the full game. However, Krafton has not confirmed if BGMI Lite will adopt similar match durations, map sizes, player counts, or graphics reductions.
Market Expansion and Ecosystem
The move comes as the publisher looks to leverage a substantial installed base; Krafton reports that BGMI has surpassed 260 million downloads in India. By positioning the Lite version as a complementary title, Krafton aims to bring new players into the wider ecosystem without diverting existing users from the flagship game.
Several details remain unconfirmed, including:
- Whether the game will launch on both iOS and Android.
- If the title will be compatible with existing BGMI accounts.
- Whether progression systems will differ from the standard version.
- Specific download sizes and available game modes.
Recent BGMI Updates
While players wait for the 2026 launch of the Lite version, Krafton India recently released the BGMI 5th Anniversary Edition 4.5 update. This update introduced collaborations with three global IPs: Ferrari, Spider-Man: Brand New Day, and Naruto.

The update includes several new features and rewards:
- Ferrari: Four new car models, including the Ferrari LaFerrari, Ferrari Purosangue, Ferrari Roma, and Ferrari SF90 XX Spider.
- Spider-Man: Brand New Day: New traversal mechanics such as Spider Climb, Web Attack, and Web Swing on the Erangel map.
- Naruto: A new ninjutsu-based combat system and modified versions of the Livik and Erangel maps featuring recreated locations from the anime series.
As part of the anniversary, the company also provided redeem codes for limited-time rewards, including the Smiling Pal Backpack and the Mecha Ant Backpack, as well as outfits and UC (Unknown Cash).
