Award-winning French film producer Nicolas Altmayer and Mathilde Favier, public relations chief for Dior, died in a car crash in western France on Monday afternoon.

French film producer Nicolas Altmayer and Mathilde Favier, the public relations chief for the luxury fashion brand Dior, died in a motor vehicle collision in the western region of France on Monday afternoon. Local authorities confirmed that the tragedy occurred when the car carrying the pair slammed into a truck during an overtaking maneuver.

Nicolas Leclercq, deputy prosecutor in Niort within the Deux-Sèvres department, detailed that the crash happened as their vehicle attempted to pass another car.

At 61 years old, Nicolas Altmayer headed the production company Mandarin & Compagnie alongside his brother, Eric.

Their production slate included the popular OSS 117 series, which parodies 1950s spy films, as well as the cult comedy Brice de Nice. The brothers also produced Conquest, a dramatic thriller centered on the political rise of former French President Nicolas Sarkozy. In 2017, Nicolas and Eric Altmayer received the Daniel Toscan du Plantier Prize as the top French producers of the year, an honor bestowed by the French equivalent of the Oscar awards.
