French film producer Nicolas Altmayer and Mathilde Favier, the public relations chief for the luxury fashion brand Dior, died in a motor vehicle collision in the western region of France on Monday afternoon. Local authorities confirmed that the tragedy occurred when the car carrying the pair slammed into a truck during an overtaking maneuver.
Nicolas Leclercq, deputy prosecutor in Niort within the Deux-Sèvres department, detailed that the crash happened as their vehicle attempted to pass another car.
Nicolas Altmayer and the Legacy of Mandarin & Compagnie
At 61 years old, Nicolas Altmayer headed the production company Mandarin & Compagnie alongside his brother, Eric.
Their production slate included the popular OSS 117 series, which parodies 1950s spy films, as well as the cult comedy Brice de Nice. The brothers also produced Conquest, a dramatic thriller centered on the political rise of former French President Nicolas Sarkozy. In 2017, Nicolas and Eric Altmayer received the Daniel Toscan du Plantier Prize as the top French producers of the year, an honor bestowed by the French equivalent of the Oscar awards.
Mathilde Favier and Her Role at Dior
Mathilde Favier, 57, directed public relations for Dior, guiding the luxury fashion label’s public image and cultural partnerships. French Minister of Culture Catherine Pegard noted that alongside Altmayer, Favier embodied another form of French greatness: that of fashion and luxury.

Bernard Arnault, chief executive officer of LVMH, the luxury conglomerate that owns Dior, honored Favier through the fashion house’s Instagram account. Arnault stated that she had dedicated many years of her life to putting her passion, energy and talent in the service of Dior.
