The 82-year-old actress attended the star-studded event wearing a tailored midnight blue suit paired with a cream-colored blouse, accessorizing with a dramatic lariat chain necklace and duster earrings. According to HELLO! Magazine, the premiere took place at London’s Odeon Luxe Leicester Square, where Channing joined fellow cast members for photographs.

At the premiere, Channing reunited with her original co-stars Sandra Bullock, Nicole Kidman, and Dianne Wiest, alongside franchise newcomers Joey King, Maisie Williams, Lee Pace, Xolo Maridueña, and Solly McLeod. Photographers captured Channing wrapping her arm around Wiest for an affectionate pose during the glamorous gathering.
Embracing Life as a Recluse Abroad
The rare public outing comes just weeks after the Emmy-winning actress confessed in a Sunday Times essay that she has lived alone as a recluse outside Hollywood. Channing shared that since the 2014 death of her partner, cinematographer Daniel Gillham, at the age of 58, she has found peace away from the intense spotlight.
Reflecting on the loss after 25 years together, Channing wrote that the tragedy was more devastating than she had realized and that mourning it shifted the pattern of her life. She ultimately sold her Los Angeles home and relocated across the Atlantic in 2019, settling permanently in London. Beyond personal loss, she noted that her move vaguely coincided with the changing political landscape in the United States following the election of Donald Trump.

Channing returns to the screen to reprise her role as Aunt Frances Owens in Practical Magic 2, nearly three decades after the release of the 1998 original. Her extensive career spans nearly six decades, encompassing celebrated projects across film, television, and theater, including her breakout role as Rizzo in 1978’s Grease, her work on The West Wing, and theatrical productions.
Despite her global fame, Channing revealed in a recent interview that she has only seen Grease twice: the first time when it was released, and again 20 years later. Looking back at her diverse body of work, she noted that different age groups recognize her from different characters, pointing to Practical Magic for younger generations, The West Wing for grown-ups, and Grease for real grown-ups.
Alongside her film work, Channing has gravitated toward theater and recently directed a production of Krapp’s Last Tape for the Edinburgh Festival. However, true to her preference for a private life, the star indicated she remains uncertain about her future plans, admitting she is not sure if she will take on additional projects after her current commitments conclude.
