The facility held artillery shells, mines, and drones, according to reporting. More than 370 people were forced to evacuate the region, and dozens were injured as constant air raids aimed at the Ukrainian capital and the surrounding region dragged into a third straight day.
Official Outrage and Investigation Into Storage Negligence
Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy denounced the placement of the depot in a video address, labeling the incident a terrible situation and terrible negligence on the part of those who stored explosives right next to people. Zelenskyy noted that criminal proceedings had already been opened on charges of official negligence.

Another such crime — after what happened in Vyshneve — is absolutely unacceptable, Zelenskyy said, adding that he expected details to be presented to the public promptly. In a statement on Saturday, Ukraine’s Defence Ministry said all those responsible for weapons storage should complete a full audit of their locations. The president did not explicitly say what had caused the detonation or what the warehouse was storing when it was attacked, though he later stated that a warehouse had been struck in the village of Myla followed by a detonation. The site of Friday’s blast was a military facility that held artillery shells, mines, and drones, among other ammunition. The tragedy follows a similar incident in July in the Kyiv-area town of Vyshneve, where an arms warehouse strike killed 10 people and damaged hundreds of homes. Prime Minister Serhii Koretskyi didn’t offer information on the warehouse targeted, but referenced the attack on the Kyiv suburb of Vyshneve early in July, which hit an ammunition depot, killing 22 and triggering large detonations and fires that tore through nearby homes. Those who allowed this to happen must be held accountable for their decisions, Zelenskyy said.
Devastation in Bucha District and Local Casualties
The force of the Myla detonation swept through neighboring streets, damaging at least 50 residential buildings and damaging a local care facility for elderly people and individuals with disabilities. Tymur Tkachenko, head of the local regional military administration, stated that 34 of those killed were residents at the care facility. Among the dead was Taras Didych, head of the Dmytrivka community, who was one of the first to rush to the scene to rescue people, according to Kyiv region governor Tymur Tkachenko.

Russia’s Ministry of Defense claimed responsibility for hitting the Myla warehouse, stating in a release that it had hit a warehouse in Myla storing components and launch boosters for long-range drones. The Russian military statement added that it had attacked the ports of Mykolaiv and Izmail, as well as a logistics center and warehouse facilities storing parts for Ukraine’s Flamingo cruise missiles in the Kyiv region.
Intensifying Air Assaults Across the Capital Region
The depot strike coincided with a punishing three-day air offensive against Kyiv and nine other Ukrainian regions. Nine other regions had been targeted in the attacks that dragged into a third straight day, killing residents, damaging homes and derailing daily life more than 4½ years after Russia’s full-scale invasion of its neighbor.
