on TMC found himself at the center of a major online firestorm after remarks made during a heatwave.

The controversy originated from a pre-summer broadcast in which Barthès suggested that everyone faced identical conditions during extreme heat, comparing billionaire Bernard Arnault to an ordinary neighbor. According to ozap.com, the broadcast was intended as a humorous parody of standard television weather street interviews. However, the attempt at satire failed to resonate with viewers, leading to fierce criticism.
Backlash, Online Abuse, and a Public Petition
Following the broadcast, the host faced intense public anger. A petition titled let’s cut off Yann Barthès’s air conditioning was launched, demanding that his air conditioning be shut off, and quickly accumulated tens of thousands of signatures, as reported by closermag.fr. Barthès firmly rejected the notion that he minimizes ecological concerns or remains blind to social disparities. Stressing that climate change deepens societal inequalities, he pointed to his program’s track record, noting that Quotidien is certainly the talk show that has hosted the most experts and activists on this issue, and adding that he maintains a healthy skepticism toward digital purity tests.
