Gal Gadot has revealed that newly appointed DC Studios co-heads James Gunn and Peter Safran planned to develop Wonder Woman 3 with her, but she ultimately walked away after witnessing how colleagues like Henry Cavill and Patty Jenkins were treated during the studio’s leadership transition.
Leadership Transitions and the Offer to Continue
When Gal Gadot appeared on Josh Horowitz’s Happy Sad Confused podcast, she addressed rumors surrounding her departure from the DC franchise. Contrary to speculation that the incoming management ousted her, Gadot stated that Gunn and Safran approached her with plans to keep her in the role for a third installment.
According to reporting from Detik, the actress recalled the studio’s direct pitch during development discussions. The management team assured her they intended to build the project alongside her, telling her that they were going to develop the third installment with her during initial talks.
The Exit of Henry Cavill and Behind-the-Scenes Turbulence
Despite the studio’s offer to move forward with Wonder Woman 3, Gadot chose to step down voluntarily. Her decision stemmed from observing how the studio handled other prominent figures during the transition into the new DC Universe era.
Gal Gadot stated via Detik that DC Studios actually told her the exact opposite and said they would develop Wonder Woman 3 with her, but she added that she saw how other people were treated and remarked that Henry’s situation was not handled very gracefully, to be honest.
The management shake-up included Henry Cavill’s abrupt departure. After returning for a cameo appearance in Black Adam and celebrating his comeback in late 2022, Cavill learned he was no longer playing Superman just weeks later as Gunn prioritized a new creative direction for the franchise.
Personal Priorities and the Future of the Franchise
Alongside the behind-the-scenes disruption, Gadot noted that personal priorities influenced her decision to leave the role permanently. As a mother of four children attending different schools, committing to a grueling physical and travel schedule for another tentpole production no longer aligned with her daily life.
Reflecting on her tenure carrying the shield in Wonder Woman (2017) and Wonder Woman 1984 (2020), Gadot harbors no personal animosity toward Gunn or Safran, noting that everyone was simply trying to execute their vision.

With Gadot’s departure joining those of Cavill and Ben Affleck, the Zack Snyder era of the cinematic universe has officially closed. DC Studios is now focused on its upcoming slate under the Gods and Monsters
chapter, leaving the iconic Amazonian role open to be recast for future audiences.
