Actor Noel Clarke charged with sexual offences

British actor Noel Clarke has been charged with six sexual offenses, including sexual assault, voyeurism, and exposure. London’s Metropolitan Police brought the charges following an evidence file submitted by detectives, stemming from allegations involving five women between 2007 and 2016.

The Crown Prosecution Service authorized the Metropolitan Police to file formal charges against the 50-year-old actor and filmmaker, according to confirmation from prosecutors. The case encompasses two counts of sexual assault, three counts of voyeurism, and one count of exposure.

Crown Prosecution Details and Legal Timeline

The alleged offenses span nearly a decade, stretching from 2007 to 2016, and involve five different complainants. Bethan David, Deputy Chief Crown Prosecutor for CPS London, stated: The Crown Prosecution Service has decided to prosecute Noel Clarke with two counts of sexual assault, three counts of voyeurism and one count of exposure.

This follows allegations made by five women in connection with sexual misconduct that took place between 2007 and 2016,” Bethan David added. “Our prosecutors have worked to establish that there is sufficient evidence to bring this case to court and that it is in the public interest to do so. We have worked closely with the Metropolitan Police as they have carried out their investigation into the allegations.

Investigators initiated the current formal probe in September 2025 under the direction of the central specialist crime command. During that initial phase, a man then in his 40s was arrested as detectives were seen leaving the actor’s London residence with boxes, though he was eventually released while the investigation continued.

Clarke will appear in court on October 21 at Westminster Magistrates’ Court. Prosecutors have emphasized that active legal proceedings mean strict restrictions apply to public commentary.

“The Crown Prosecution Service reminds everyone that proceedings are now active, and the defendant has the right to a fair trial. It is vital that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings,” the Crown Prosecution Service stated.

Prior Libel Defeat and Industry Fallout

The criminal charges follow a series of civil and professional setbacks for the actor. In August 2025, Clarke lost a libel case against The Guardian, having sued the newspaper’s publisher for its initial 2021 exposé detailing allegations of sexual misconduct from more than 20 women. Clarke vehemently denied the claims at the time.

During the six-week High Court trial, over a dozen women testified against Clarke, each claiming that they had personally experienced misconduct by the actor. Following the ruling, he was ordered to pay £3 million ($4 million) of The Guardian’s legal costs.

This judgment is a deserved victory for those women who suffered because of the behavior of Noel Clarke, said Guardian News and Media editor-in-chief Katharine Viner in a statement following the ruling. Going to court is difficult and stressful, yet more than 20 women agreed to testify in the High Court, refusing to be bullied or intimidated.

In the wake of the initial 2021 allegations, which also included sources alleging they were sexually harassed or inappropriately touched on the set of Doctor Who, multiple broadcasters and industry organizations severed ties with the actor. ITV, Sky, and CAA cut ties with the actor soon after, and BAFTA rescinded his Outstanding British Contribution to Cinema award.
