Behind the camera, Flanagan directed episodes one, two, seven, and eight. The remaining episodes are handled by Kate Siegel, who’s also in the cast in an as-yet-unknown role, Axelle Carolyn, Kyra Sedgwick, and Hiromi Kamata. Speaking at San Diego Comic-Con, the series creator emphasized that even devoted readers of the novel should set aside their expectations. At San Diego Comic-Con, the series creator said that even fans who are very familiar with Carrie should set their preconceptions aside while settling in to watch. It’s a thrilling way to adapt something, to take it apart into its essential pieces and use that to build something new. That is how we were approaching Carrie, Flanagan explained. That’s what got Stephen King very excited about this adaptation. I think a lot of people think they know what the show is. And the biggest thing I’m excited about today is just knowing what a big surprise our Carrie is going to be.
Summer H. Howell and Samantha Sloyan Lead an Enormous Ensemble Cast
The eight-episode order gives the production room to unpack the fraught relationship between Carrie and her deeply religious mother. Summer H. Howell steps into the title role of Carrie White, opposite Samantha Sloyan as Margaret White, bringing a turbulent psychological intensity to the household dynamics.

Unfortunately for Midnight Mass fans, one of the writer/director’s staple actors, Zach Gilford, will not be appearing in the series.
A Complex Prom Night and What Lies Ahead
With eight full chapters to develop the narrative, the series promises a heavy focus on the social hierarchy of Chamberlain High School and the escalating pressures bearing down on the protagonist. That includes the famous prom scene, which Flanagan told the SDCC audience will take everyone by surprise; he also said it was the most complex scene he’s ever filmed, which is saying something.
All eight episodes are scheduled to drop simultaneously on Wednesday, October 7 (with the Prime Video press release also noting Carrie arrives October 8 on Prime Video), giving horror fans an uninterrupted binge just in time for the autumn holiday season.
