Samsung is preparing to launch a new set of open-ear clip-on headphones tentatively called Galaxy Buds On, which recently appeared in a Buds Manager app leak detailing automatic volume adjustments, sleep detection, and voice memo transcription features ahead of an expected Q4 2026 release.
The open-ear headphone market is expanding rapidly, and Samsung appears ready to challenge established options like Huawei’s FreeClip series. Recent software discoveries have brought the tech giant’s upcoming wearable into focus, revealing a distinctive design philosophy and a suite of smart device features built for everyday convenience.
Design and Fit of the Galaxy Buds On Clip-On Earbuds
Previously known internally by the codename Able, the Galaxy Buds On ditch traditional silicone ear tips in favor of a popular clip-on style similar to designs offered by Bose and Nothing. App assets uncovered through software teardowns show that each earbud uses two rounded bulbs connected by a flexible silicone loop. The larger inner bulb houses the audio drivers and rests comfortably inside the concha, while the flatter outer bulb clips securely onto the exterior of the ear while providing a touch-sensitive control surface.

Unlike the older Galaxy Buds Live, which featured an open design without actively blocking the ear canal, these new clip-ons completely forgo active noise cancellation, shifting the focus entirely toward situational awareness and all-day comfort.

Beyond the hardware aesthetic, the companion app reveals deep software integration across Samsung’s ecosystem. Users can look forward to gesture controls introduced on past models, such as nodding or shaking the head to manage interactions. A newly detailed Auto Volume function dynamically increases audio output in bustling environments and softens playback when ambient noise dies down. For users wanting an extra kick, a Volume Boost setting forces the earbuds to play louder, though that convenience carries a higher risk of sound leakage.
