Robbie Ure has earned his first-ever call-up to the Scotland senior men’s national team following a prolific spell with IK Sirius and a summer transfer to Spanish side Sevilla. The 22-year-old striker joins the squad under new manager Sébastien Pocognoli ahead of upcoming Nations League fixtures.
Scottish football has a new name in its senior international setup. The milestone arrives during a whirlwind period for the young attacker, who missed out on a spot in the national team’s summer World Cup squad.
From Uppsala to Andalusia: The Allsvenskan Breakthrough
Ure built his reputation during a stellar stint in Swedish football with IK Sirius. Across 50 total appearances for the Uppsala club, he netted 31 goals and provided seven assists. His domestic league form was particularly sharp: after just 15 Allsvenskan matches, he had already matched that exact total with 15 goals.
That productivity caught the eye of Spanish scouts. Since arriving in Spain, Ure has featured in five matches, contributing one assist as he adapts to the pace and demands of Spanish top-flight football.
Managerial Change and the Nations League Horizon
Despite his strong spring form in Sweden, Ure was left on the outside looking in during the previous summer’s international tournaments. However, a post-tournament leadership change has shifted the landscape within the Scottish setup. Sébastien Pocognoli has replaced Steve Clarke as manager, and the new coaching staff decided the time was right to integrate the 22-year-old into the senior squad.
The call-up arrives ahead of a busy schedule in the UEFA Nations League. Scotland competes in League B and faces a group that includes Slovenia, Switzerland, and North Macedonia.
