While the head of state led the official Czech delegation on a military special flight, the foreign minister headed to the United States on a commercial flight.
The Foreign Ministry defended the separate travel arrangements by citing a divergence in schedules at the conclusion of the trip. Ministry officials explained that the minister maintains a working program in New York through Friday, whereas President Pavel continues onward to Nebraska on Wednesday to meet with the state governor and representatives of the National Guard.
Financial considerations also influenced the decision, according to the ministry. Officials noted that purchasing a one-way commercial ticket would have proved more expensive than a standard round-trip booking, rendering a joint outbound flight impractical from an economic perspective.
Delegation Split and Accommodation in New York
Despite taking separate flights out of Prague, portions of the foreign minister’s team joined the presidential aircraft. The Černínský palace confirmed that empty seats on the military plane were utilized by three ministry staff members, including the head of communications, a department director, and a staff photographer. Representatives of Czech universities also accompanied the presidential delegation for portions of the American itinerary.
Upon arrival in New York, both delegations will reside in the same hotel. The president reached the accommodation on Sunday evening, while the foreign minister arrived later.

Opportunities for direct interaction between the two officials during the summit are expected to remain limited. Potential meeting points include the opening of the general debate, where delegation representatives sit adjacent to each other, or during the address delivered by United States President Donald Trump.
Presidential office sources noted that cooperation regarding the United Nations gathering has proceeded much more smoothly than coordination ahead of the recent NATO summit. President Pavel is scheduled to deliver his national address on Wednesday, September 23, and will visit a memorial honoring victims of the September 11, 2001, terrorist attacks in connection with the recent 25th anniversary. Meanwhile, the foreign minister has nearly 20 bilateral meetings scheduled with international counterparts.
Separate travel arrangements for presidents and foreign ministers at major international summits reflect historical precedents. A similar division occurred during the 2011 UN General Assembly when then-President Václav Klaus and Foreign Minister Karel Schwarzenberg traveled separately amid an open dispute over the conceptual direction of Czech diplomacy.
