Xbox is preparing its own equivalent to PlayStation’s Platinum Trophy, with a new Mythic Achievement tier discovered in an Xbox PC App update. Set for release later this year, the system tracks game completion through a base game group that isolates downloadable content, offering completionists a long-awaited rewards framework.
Console players have spent nearly two decades watching PlayStation users chase Platinum trophies after the feature debuted on the PS3 in July 2008. While achievement hunters on Xbox built massive Gamerscore totals over the years, the platform lacked a single, definitive badge for completing every task in a game. That missing piece is finally arriving.
Xbox PC App Update Reveals Mythic Achievement Design and Audio
The first concrete look at the upcoming feature surfaced through code analysis of the Windows 11 Xbox app. Data miners extracting files from the application uncovered the official symbol and unlock sound for the feature. Xbox-focused creator Klobrille shared a 16-second video on social media featuring the leaked logo and its accompanying audio effect, giving the community its first glimpse of the badge.
The discovery follows months of mounting speculation. The conversation gained official momentum in August when Xbox CEO Asha Sharma responded to a fan request on social media, confirming that the team is working on something for later this year. Subsequent updates to the Xbox Insider program’s Alpha Skip-Ahead ring introduced search filters for Completed Mythic Achievement and Incomplete Mythic Achievement, spotted by achievement hunter Stallion83.
How Base Game Grouping Handles Downloadable Content
Data extraction from the Windows app sheds light on the mechanics behind the new tier, revealing that completion requirements will bypass extra content packages. Rather than demanding a strict 100% Gamerscore tally that shifts every time a developer drops new downloadable content, the system focuses purely on original launch requirements.

The Xbox app works out Mythic from a group of achievements that it calls BaseGame. The unlock toast says “Unlocked all N achievements in the original game”. The game page has a “Required for Mythic achievement” filter, and it labels every achievement outside the group as “Add-on”. DLC achievements are not in the BaseGame group, so they do not count. The app counts achievements, not Gamerscore. It is not a “100% Gamerscore” reward.

This structure means players who finish a title’s original achievement list won’t lose their completed status simply because a studio adds post-launch expansions later. By isolating downloadable content into a separate add-on category, Xbox avoids the frustrating moving target that often plagues completionists on other platforms.
Gears of War: E-Day Points Toward an Imminent Launch
Speculation over the feature’s rollout timing intensified when developer The Coalition unveiled the full achievement list for Gears of War: E-Day
. The list leads off with an achievement titled The Lucky Ones Died on E-Day
, which requires players to simply earn all other achievements on the list without awarding any individual Gamerscore points.

Industry observers note that upcoming titles like Fable and Clockwork Revolution are prime candidates to launch with native support for the new tier. Major questions remain regarding whether Microsoft will apply Mythic Achievements retroactively to legacy titles or if the system will be restricted to modern releases.
