The United States has pledged an additional $267 million to assist in the fight against an Ebola epidemic in Central Africa, according to announcements made by high-ranking State Department officials on Wednesday, September 23, 2026. Funding Objectives and Global Goals
The new financial package is designed to help countries stop the epidemic at its source. Specific uses for the funds include the construction of treatment structures, the provision of medical countermeasures for frontline health personnel, and the expansion of diagnostic capabilities.
The U.S. announcement serves as a call for other capable nations to increase burden sharing. The broader international goal is to reach $2 billion in funding to combat the disease. Severity of the Current Epidemic
Detected in May, the current outbreak is the deadliest in the history of the DRC and the second deadliest ever recorded globally, surpassed only by the West African epidemic that occurred from 2014 to 2016.
