Early Days and Busking in Guildford
Entertainer Michael Ball recently opened up about the humble beginnings of his career, recalling how he first performed publicly while still a student, according to BBC News. During his time attending drama school, the singer and broadcaster regularly performed as a busker, singing in a pedestrian underpass located in Guildford, Surrey.
Despite focusing on acting training rather than music, Ball noted that he simply realized he possessed a singing voice. In comments shared with BBC South East while preparing for a performance in Brighton during his active tour, he acknowledged that he never received formal musical training.
Transition to West End Stardom
The journey from street performances to major theatrical stages happened rapidly. Only months after finishing his studies at drama school, Ball successfully secured a role in London for the premiere of a major theatrical production, describing it as the debut of one of the most famous musicals globally, Les Misérables

Recalling the breakthrough, Ball explained that he auditioned for a brand-new musical presented by the Royal Shakespeare Company. Within less than a year following his departure from drama school, he found himself performing in the West End in what he referred to as the greatest show in the world.
