By Monday evening, Carney’s odds on Kalshi dropped to 5 percent, placing him behind Sudan’s Emergency Response Rooms and Doctors Without Borders. Even with the dip, his standing continued to outpace Donald Trump, who held a 2 percent chance of winning the award on the same prediction platform.

The international attention follows an escalating trade dispute between Canada and the United States. Carney stated last month that Washington attempted to restrict Canada’s ability to forge trade deals with other nations, a move he described to the Associated Press as unacceptable and a question of sovereignty
