Video showed plumes of smoke billowing from the site as the aircraft crashed onto a road outside the airport. The aircraft, a Boeing 767-300 cargo plane operating as an Amazon Prime Air flight, overran the runway around 2 p.m. ET while landing in Miami, according to the Federal Aviation Administration.
Flight Details and Runway Overrun at Miami International Airport
The aircraft, identified by regulators as 21 Air Flight 7598, had departed from Luis Muñoz Marín International Airport in San Juan, Puerto Rico. As the jet touched down in Miami, it failed to stop within the runway limits. Video obtained by WSVN shows the Prime Air 767 at the end of Runway 30 at the airport. Video posted on social media shows an Amazon Prime Air plane, a Boeing 767, off the runway with its tail over the fence and thick black smoke rising from the aircraft. The airplane crossed the perimeter road, crossed Northwest 67th Avenue and came to a stop in field, according to video.
The FAA identified the aircraft as a 21 Air flight. Amazon spokesperson Kelly Nantel clarified that it was an Amazon flight operated by 21 Air. The company is working to support everyone affected, Nantel added.

Impact on Perimeter Vehicles and Emergency Response

have been treated, according to local fire rescue. Thick, black smoke billowed into the sky as the plane caught on fire.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units responded to the area near the 2100 block of Northwest 42nd Avenue. More than 60 Miami-Dade Fire Rescue units responded to the scene, and firefighters are working to extinguish a fire that broke out as a result of the crash, the agency said in a statement. Calling it an active scene with over 60 MDFR units responding, officials said multiple people are being assessed on scene, but an exact number remains unclear, and it’s not clear whether anyone was killed in the incident.
According to the Miami-Dade Sheriff’s Office, Northwest 67th Avenue between NW 25th Street and 36th Street is currently closed. Drivers could see delays and are urged to seek alternate routes.
Airport Ground Stop and Federal Investigation
The Miami-Dade Aviation Department said in a statement that the plane overran the diagonal runway and is disabled at the northwest end of the airport. All runways and taxiways at the Miami airport were closed due to a ground stop following the incident, the airport spokesperson said in a statement. All departures from the airport have been grounded as of 2:30 p.m., Sunday. All runways and taxiways at MIA are currently closed as of 3:00 p.m.,
the department said.
The FAA on Sunday issued a ground stop on planes until 3 p.m. that was later extended until 5:30 p.m. Transportation Sec. Sean Duffy said the ground stop was ordered so that first responders could assess the scene and warned travelers of significant delays and potential cancellations.
The National Transportation Safety Board said it is gathering information about the incident. The Federal Aviation Administration said it will investigate the crash, noting that details remain limited as to what led up to the incident.
