Celine Dion set for emotional comeback in Paris

Fans from around the world converged on the French capital as anticipation reached a fever pitch for Celine Dion’s return. The French Canadian singer greeted cheering admirers outside her luxury hotel near the Arc de Triomphe just hours before taking the stage, waving and blowing kisses to a crowd chanting her name.

A Historic Comeback at Plenitude Arena

The opening concert on Saturday marks Dion’s first full live performance in six years. Around 30,000 spectators were expected to fill Plenitude Arena on the western edge of Paris for the sold-out opening night. Organizers expanded the original run from 10 shows to 16 performances across September and October due to overwhelming demand, with more dates added for 2027.

Tickets are still available for all shows, with prices for the opening night starting at $157. Chloe Rydquist, who travelled from London with her wife, Katy, to see Dion, said, She's a legend, she's iconic. For her to have this comeback, we were like, we need to be there for the first night, she added.

Overcoming Stiff Person Syndrome

The milestone residency caps a grueling physical journey for the five-time Grammy Award winner. Dion announced in 2022 that she had been diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome, a rare neurological condition that causes muscle stiffness and painful spasms, one year earlier. The singer detailed her health battle in the 2024 documentary I Am: Céline Dion, and subsequently canceled her 2023 Courage World Tour in order to focus on her health.

Behind the scenes, Céline Dion has been tirelessly working to improve her health ahead of her highly anticipated Paris comeback concerts. A source exclusively told Us, “People may not realize how much work Celine put in to fight this condition and to regain her strength and mobility,” adding, “It has been constant, consistent work.” Dion announced in March, on her 58th birthday, that she would return to the stage for a limited run of 10 shows in September and October, before quickly adding six additional concerts due to enormous demand.

For the Harper’s BAZAAR U.S. September 2026 global ICONS issue, Dion spoke about being diagnosed with stiff-person syndrome, a rare autoimmune disorder: “It is a progressive condition. I don’t like to say ‘disease.’ Disease makes you go like this,” she says, scrunching her nose: ‘Kevin, you’re such a disease.’

Paris Welcomes Back Its Diva

The French capital spared no effort in welcoming Dion back to the stage. For days, Paris played host to costume contests, giant karaoke parties and tribute cruises. Footage shared by GOOD MORNING AMERICA showed preparations underway for the shows, which represent Dion’s first significant live engagement since her diagnosis forced her off the road. A second clip from TODAY captured a spontaneous moment outside Dion’s Paris hotel, where she stepped outside to sing, dance and talk with fans who had camped out hoping to catch a glimpse of her, according to TODAY correspondent Daniele Hamamdjian.

Those who didn’t manage to get tickets for Céline Dion’s residency in Paris this fall can also console themselves with sweets. Pastry chef Pierre Hermé collaborated with the Canadian superstar on limited-edition gift boxes of macarons, with the eight flavors personally selected by her. “Caramel has always been my little guilty pleasure since childhood, a comforting and indulgent flavor that instantly takes me back to my sweetest early memories,” Dion said in a press release issued Friday for the range of macarons, dubbed Infinitely Céline. According to Hermé, “pastry, like music, has the power to evoke emotions and awaken memories.” The gift boxes, priced at 25 euros for four and 38 euros for eight, went on sale Sept. 3 at a dedicated pop-up store at Galeries Lafayette’s flagship on Boulevard Haussmann.
