Circular Services has acquired New York City-based Re:Dish, integrating full-service reusable container programs into its nationwide waste-reduction platform. Announced on September 22, 2026, the deal expands the company’s recycling and organics operations to tackle high-volume single-use foodservice packaging for corporate and municipal clients.
The push toward more sustainable materials management is shifting from recovery to outright prevention. Circular Services, one of the largest recycling and composting companies in the United States, has moved to integrate reuse into its core platform through the acquisition of reusable container specialist Re:Dish. Financial terms of the transaction were not disclosed in the announcements.
Founded in 2020 by Caroline Vanderlip, Re:Dish was built to provide businesses and institutions with an alternative to single-use packaging. The enterprise manages an end-to-end operational model covering program design, supply, collection, washing, tracking, and reporting for corporate and school campuses in the Northeast. Its enterprise customers include high-profile partners such as Barclays Bank and Aramark.
Targeting High Disposal Costs and Low Diversion Rates
According to executive leadership, the acquisition addresses the core structural inefficiencies that corporate and municipal clients face when trying to clean up their waste streams. Chief Strategy Officer and Chief Operating Officer Jessica Long pointed to the economic and behavioral realities observed over the past few years as the primary driver for the deal.
The foodservice industry discards nearly 1 trillion single-use products every year, according to company background estimates. Since its launch, Re:Dish has diverted more than 9 million single-use packaging items from landfills and enabled more than 200,000 users to participate in reuse programs. The operational model relies heavily on polypropylene cups, containers, and plates designed to withstand repeated commercial sanitation cycles.
Scaling Reuse Across a Nationwide Infrastructure
Before the buyout, Circular Services already maintained a modest logistical connection with the startup, taking Re:Dish’s broken polypropylene items for recycling. By bringing the operational framework entirely in-house, Circular Services acquires a turnkey system rather than building a reuse program from scratch.
The acquisition expands Circular Services’ operating footprint to 40 recycling, composting, and reuse operations nationwide. Caroline Vanderlip expressed enthusiasm for the next phase of growth under the larger corporate umbrella.
Logistical Integration and Future Service Bundling
For commercial clients, managing reusable dishware often introduces administrative friction regarding inventory, collection, and sanitation. Re:Dish’s turnkey approach removes that burden, while Circular Services plans to leverage its existing routes to bundle services efficiently.
The deal positions the company as a single integrated partner capable of handling high-volume material streams under one contract. In cafeterias and corporate dining halls, food waste and single-use dishware sit in close physical proximity, creating a natural operational overlap for collection fleets.
By coordinating stops across recycling, organics, shredding, electronics, and now reuse, Long anticipates reducing the frequency of truck stops and material handlings within a given facility. The ultimate corporate goal is to offer reuse infrastructure everywhere the company currently provides waste diversion services, making circular packaging achievable for enterprises where it previously remained a difficult standalone service.
