Following that October 2025 event, Aspinall remained sidelined while medical evaluations diagnosed him with rare bilateral traumatic Brown’s syndrome, prompting him to undergo double eye surgery. Initial expectations pointed toward a unification clash between Aspinall and Gane, potentially scheduled for UFC Paris after Aspinall accepted a verbal challenge from the French contender.
However, subsequent training damage and a third procedure on his right eye dismantled those plans entirely. Instead of targeting a return at Madison Square Garden for UFC 334 in November, Aspinall stepped down from the throne.
