General Labor Confederation Assesses Index Decisions and Transport Allowances
General Labor Confederation President Bechara Asmar indicated that the atmosphere surrounding the index committee meetings carried positive indicators. Union representatives are engaging constructively with the newly approved measures while anticipating further administrative processing in upcoming meetings.
The adjustments approved by officials extend across several key financial categories designed to assist workers. The measures address daily transit allowances, family compensation funds, and a lump-sum payment allocated specifically for drivers. In addition, provisions include targeted financial assistance intended for independent commissions and public institutions.
The decisions may lean toward suspending the strike pending the completion of treatments. Regarding the millions allocated for drivers, Asmar pointed out that there is a promise to pay it, provided it takes its path to implementation after being issued by decree and having its credit reserved.
Fuel Price Restructuring and Driver Compensation Pledges
Beyond immediate stipends, labor leadership secured commitments regarding fuel pricing structures. Officials received assurances that the fuel price calculation table will undergo review, a change intended to pass potential price reductions on to workers across both the public and private sectors depending on the finalized regulatory mechanism.
Financial allocations for transport workers remain a central focus of the ongoing talks. The promised 12 million Lebanese pounds designated for drivers requires formal authorization through a governmental decree and official credit reservation before funds are disbursed to recipients.
