Indian Railways Cancels Special Train for CPI Delhi Protest

The Communist Party of India suffered a setback after Indian Railways cancelled a special train booked for its Delhi Chalo protest against the Central Government, refunding ten lakh rupees without prior notice ahead of the September 1 rally at Ramlila Maidan.

The Communist Party of India (CPI) faced an unexpected roadblock in its preparations for an upcoming national demonstration when Indian Railways abruptly cancelled a special train reserved for party workers. The political mobilization, branded as the Delhi Chalo protest, is scheduled to take place at Ramlila Maidan on September 1.

Train Bookings Cancelled Across Multiple States

Party organizers had secured transit arrangements from various parts of the country to transport an expected one lakh participants to the national capital. In Kerala, organizers reserved a 22-coach special train departing from Kochuveli on August 29, paying an advance of ₹10 lakh to confirm the reservation.

State leaders only discovered the cancellation when the ₹10 lakh deposit was automatically refunded to their bank account, arriving without any prior warning or official explanation from railway authorities. According to party disclosures, similar cancellations hit special train bookings arranged from Tamil Nadu, Telangana, and Andhra Pradesh.

Binoy Viswam Alleges Undemocratic Interference

Binoy Viswam addressed the press regarding the abrupt cancellations, accusing the Central Government of employing undemocratic methods to suppress the political opposition and defeat the public mobilization.

No matter what justifications are offered by authorities, party leadership maintains that the cancellations stem from political motives. Despite the transit setbacks, the party leadership insists that workers and leaders from Kerala and other states will still find alternative routes to reach Delhi for the September 1 demonstration.
