Liverpool manager Andoni Iraola confirms new signing Bradley Barcola is available for Friday’s Premier League match at Ipswich Town. The £123million ($166m) arrival from Paris Saint-Germain enters the squad immediately, while the club also retains Cody Gakpo following a rejected £80m offer from Manchester City.
Liverpool’s squad adjustments took final shape ahead of Friday’s trip to Portman Road. Manager Andoni Iraola addressed reporters to confirm that Bradley Barcola is ready to feature in the matchday squad after completing a high-profile move from Paris Saint-Germain earlier in the week.

The France international completed a £123million ($166m) transfer to Anfield. Though Barcola has not played competitive minutes since the World Cup with France and lacks a full pre-season, Iraola indicated that his training performances have dispelled any hesitation about thrusting him into action.
“We are very happy with Bradley. It was our priority to sign a very good player in that position. He has come also with the right mentality. I liked from him that he wanted Liverpool a lot.”

When asked whether the winger would start or enter from the bench against Ipswich, the manager noted that he has trained with the group and fits comfortably into the physical and tactical preparations, though a final determination on his starting berth remains pending. Iraola stated: He is playing well for us [in training], and if everything goes well in training today, he will definitely be available for us tomorrow.
Cody Gakpo Transfer Status and Squad Balance
While Barcola’s arrival bolsters the attacking options, Liverpool also navigated significant interest in their existing forward line before the transfer window closed. The club opted to block a potential exit for Cody Gakpo after Manchester City submitted an £80m offer for the Dutch forward. The club rejected that bid because they were unable to secure an acceptable replacement, having faced frustration in pursuits of Brighton & Hove Albion right winger Yankuba Minteh and Crystal Palace’s Ismaila Sarr.
Iraola has spoken out to make clear his plans to still use him – starting with Friday’s clash at Portman Road. The manager praised Gakpo’s professionalism and current form following goals and assists in the opening fixtures.
“Cody is a very smart player and my relationship with him has been honest since the beginning. He has performed very well. He scored in the first game, assisted in the next one. He was always aware of the situations in the market.”

Addressing concerns regarding the tactical balance of an attack where Barcola, Gakpo, Victor Munoz, and Rio Ngumoha all show a preference for the left flank, Iraola dismissed fears about right-wing coverage. He noted that he is used to demanding wingers to play on both sides, pointing out that Munoz, Gakpo, and Ngumoha have already logged minutes on the right.
Iraola knows Ipswich will prove no pushovers on Friday and he admits his side face a tough task claiming a first win under his regime. Ipswich are a team that won their first game at home. Even the other day, in the first half they were the better team until United got the 2-1 and the game opened up. We have to be ready, give our best,
he said.
Meanwhile, the squad’s wider injury picture shows gradual recovery progress. Joe Gomez is set to return to training next week following the muscle injury he picked up on the pre-season tour of the US in July. Young defender Giovanni Leoni, who has been out for nearly a year with a knee injury, is expected to start training again during the international break later this month.
