Indiana Fever guard Kelsey Mitchell became the WNBA single-season scoring leader on Friday, surpassing the mark previously held by A’ja Wilson during a 103-85 victory over the Toronto Tempo in Toronto.
The record-breaking moment arrived with 7:57 remaining in the third quarter at Coca-Cola Coliseum.
A Historic Scoring Pace in Toronto
Mitchell finished the night with 33 points, shooting 12 for 17 from the field—good for 70.6 percent shooting according to USA Today—and going 7 for 11 from beyond the arc. That performance elevated her season total to 1,034 points, eclipsing the 1,021 points that Las Vegas Aces star A’ja Wilson scored across 38 games during the 2024 season. Mitchell reached the new milestone in her 41st game of the schedule.
The milestone caught the guard by surprise in the immediate aftermath of the game. As USA Today and CBS Sports reported from her postgame broadcast interview, Mitchell said, I think you just told me, to be honest.
“Y’all know me. Y’all know how I get down in terms of accolades. I just want to be able to show up and respond when my number is called. Just be a good teammate, be a good person and show love to the game like I’m supposed to.”
