Pedro Acosta secured his maiden MotoGP victory in dominant fashion at the Austrian Grand Prix on September 20, 2026. Lining up fourth, the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing rider overcame an early dip to fifth place to beat Jorge Martin by 1.01 seconds, ending a win drought for KTM.

Race Dynamics and Aprilia’s Early Challenge
At the start of the 28-lap race, Aprilia seized control of the front of the field.
Bezzecchi immediately pressured his Aprilia teammate Martin, passing him under braking at the start of lap two. Martin fought back instantly, reclaiming the lead at Turn 3 and pulling clear. Meanwhile, Acosta was cutting through the field after dropping from fourth on the grid to fifth on the opening lap. He cleared Marquez on the first tour and passed Ogura on the following lap before setting his sights on Bezzecchi.
Acosta overtook Bezzecchi at Turn 2 on lap two, closing the gap to Martin, who was running half a second ahead. After several laps of unsuccessful attempts where Martin covered the racing line, Acosta finally broke through on lap nine, snatching the lead as he accelerated out of Turn 1.
Closing Stages and Championship Standings
Once in front, Acosta maintained a steady advantage of about eight tenths of a second over Martin to prevent any counterattacks.
Behind the winner, Martin fended off late pressure from his Aprilia teammate Bezzecchi to finish second. According to BBC Sport, the runner-up finish allowed Martin to increase his championship points lead over Marquez. Trackhouse sophomore Ai Ogura concluded his weekend returning from an injury layoff with a fourth-place finish.
Marquez’s Recovery and KTM’s Strong Team Result
Reigning champion Marc Marquez endured a turbulent race, running wide at Turn 1 on lap nine and slipping to seventh by the midway point. He recovered his composure to finish fifth, limiting the damage to his championship standing against Martin. Brad Binder provided further encouragement for the manufacturer by securing his best result of the season with a sixth-place finish for KTM.
Fermin Aldeguer finished seventh for Gresini after starting from 12th on the grid. Francesco Bagnaia crossed the line eighth for the factory Ducati squad, followed by VR46 rider Fabio di Giannantonio and top LCR Honda rider Johann Zarco. Yamaha failed to score points at the Red Bull Ring in a race featuring only a single retirement, as Gresini’s Alex Marquez crashed from 12th place just before the race reached its halfway point.
