The historic mistake occurred in the fourth quarter while Los Angeles held a 19-16 advantage. Safety Talanoa Hufanga jumped in front of a pass intended for Kyren Williams and returned the interception 66 yards for a touchdown, giving the Broncos their first lead of the night.
Stafford finished the game completing 30 of 55 passes for 390 yards and two touchdowns, but the two crucial interceptions proved decisive in the four-point defeat. Despite the record-breaking turnover, Stafford engineered a swift response on the ensuing possession, connecting with Konata Mumpfield on a 48-yard touchdown pass that temporarily put the Rams back in front 26-23.

Penalties and missed opportunities compounded the second-half collapse. The Rams accumulated 13 penalties for 91 yards, frequently stalling promising first-half drives inside the 20-yard line.
Higbee finished the night with eight receptions for 62 yards and one score, while running back Kyren Williams paced the offense with 158 yards from scrimmage, including 88 rushing yards and six receptions for 70 yards. Wide receiver Davante Adams also contributed heavily with 137 receiving yards on seven catches.
Late-Game Controversies and the Final Defensive Stand
The closing minutes featured a series of high-stakes penalties and scoring changes that kept the Sunday night crowd of 76,633 on edge. The defeat drops the heavily touted Rams to a 1-2 record through three weeks of the season, a rare early deficit for a team led by head coach Sean McVay. Speaking after the final whistle, McVay declined to focus on officiating controversies surrounding the late-game pass interference call against Wallace.
McVay added that the outcome ultimately came down to missed opportunities by his squad. Doesn’t really matter. It is what it is. That was the call that was made and there was a lot of opportunities that we had to be able to close the door on that game,
McVay said.
Locker room leaders echoed a calm outlook despite the early-season stumble. Receiver Davante Adams noted that the team still has plenty of time to correct its course.
The Rams face additional roster concerns heading into their upcoming matchup against the Philadelphia Eagles. Cornerback Jaylen Watson sustained a dislocated shoulder, though McVay indicated he will not be placed on injured reserve. Tight end Terrance Ferguson exited with an ankle injury, and tight end Colby Parkinson will be evaluated for a shoulder issue this week.
