The Toronto Raptors announced that they will raise Kyle Lowry‘s No. 7 to the rafters following their Jan. 10, 2027 matchup against the Philadelphia 76ers, cementing the guard’s status as the face of the most successful era in franchise history.
The organization’s announcement ends months of speculation surrounding when the player widely regarded as the Greatest Raptor of All Time would receive the ultimate organizational tribute. Lowry, 40, officially ended his 20-year NBA career in July 2026 by signing a one-day contract with Toronto, having spent the final stretch of his playing days with the 76ers and retiring after the 2025-26 season.
A Career Defined in Toronto
During his nine seasons with the club, he earned six All-Star selections and earned All-NBA third-team honors following the 2015-16 campaign.
His impact on the franchise record books remains staggering. Lowry departs as the Raptors’ career leader in assists, steals, three-pointers, and triple-doubles, while ranking second in total games played and total points. In the postseason, he similarly paces the franchise in both points and games played, highlighted by a performance in Game 6 of the 2019 NBA Finals where he scored the first 11 Raptors points of the contest.

A Multi-Day Celebration Leading to Jan. 10
Rather than confining the celebration to a single evening, the organization planned a week of special GROAT Nights home games leading up to the weekend ceremony. The tribute kicks off when the Raptors host the Minnesota Timberwolves on Jan. 7, 2027, where fans in attendance will receive a collectible Lowry T-shirt. That game is followed by a Jan. 8 matchup against the Utah Jazz, featuring a limited-edition bobblehead giveaway.
The festivities culminate on Sunday, Jan. 10, when Lowry, his family, former teammates, and members of the organization gather for the jersey retirement ceremony following the game against Philadelphia. His No. 7 will join the championship banner and Vince Carter’s No. 15 in the arena rafters.
An Emotional Farewell From a Fierce Competitor
Lowry’s connection to Toronto was underscored earlier in the year during a 76ers road trip to Scotiabank Arena.
