The upcoming film Star Detective Precure! The Movie: The Mysterious Garden and the Secret of 2 People (Eiga Meitantei Precure! Fushigi na Niwa to Futari no Himitsu) will open in Japan on September 18, 2026, introducing original voice cast members and crossover appearances from past franchise characters in a brand-new trailer released on Sunday.
The staff behind the 23rd main anime entry in the Precure franchise have detailed the key additions and plot points for the theatrical release. According to promotional material unveiled ahead of the premiere, the story launches when a fairy character named Rain approaches the Detective Precures to request urgent assistance.
Cast Additions for Karin, Alan, and Rain
The new promotional video confirms three primary film-original characters and their respective voice actors. Akari Kitō voices Karin, described as a 14-year-old girl who holds the key to the narrative. Nobunaga Shimazaki takes on the role of Alan, a fairy watching over Karin, while Kōki Uchiyama voices Rain, the fairy who initiates the team’s investigation, the production team announced.

Into Karin’s Garden and the Dame Dame Threat
The plot centers on an investigation into the X Mark Incident, which leads the heroes directly to a setting known as Karin’s Garden. The location quickly runs into trouble as tiny creatures called Dame Dame overrun the grounds. The Detective Precures must investigate these creatures to uncover the hidden secrets of the garden.
The adventure draws heavily on the franchise’s broader history. Past Precure characters from You and Idol Precure♪ and Wonderful Precure! will also appear in the film to aid the main cast.

Behind the Production and Music
Hanako Ueda is directing the film, with Yoshimi Narita writing the script. Erika Fukasawa and Misaki Umase are composing the music, and Emiko Miyamoto is designing the characters and is also the film’s chief animation director. Additional staff members include art director Risa Fujii, color designer Satoshi Takezawa, compositing director of photography Takumi Arai, and production manager Hirotaka Naota. Musical performances for the film include Yūka Masui and Chihaya Yoshitake performing the film’s ending theme song “FIRST PRISM,accompanied by Ami Ishii performing the insert song

Television Roots and Time-Travel Premise
The theatrical feature builds directly on the Star Detective Precure! anime that debuted on February 1 on ABC TV, TV Asahi, and their affiliate channels at 8:30 a.m. JST. Crunchyroll is streaming the anime in North America, Central America, South America, Australia, New Zealand, Europe, Africa, the Middle East and CIS. That series follows Anna Akechi, a second year middle school student who lives in Makoto Mirai Town who encounters her companion fairy named Pochitan on her birthday. The encounter triggers a time-travel sequence carrying her from 2027 back to 1999.
In the 1999 Makoto Mirai Town, Anna meets Mikuru Kobayashi, another second year middle school student who dreams of becoming a great detective. The pair witness the troubles caused by the Phantom Thieves who steal people’s precious belongings, and they transform into great Precure detectives and use their deductive reasoning skills to protect the people’s smiles. The anime stars Ami Ishii, who performs the series’ opening theme song Heart ni Hint! Meitantei Precure!
