Four fights erupted within the first ten minutes of a joint practice between the San Francisco 49ers and Tennessee Titans on Tuesday ahead of their upcoming preseason matchup.
The joint practice in Santa Clara quickly boiled over on Tuesday as the 49ers and Titans traded blows during early scrimmage work. According to reporting from Bleacherreport, multiple scuffles broke out before the two squads had even finished their first ten minutes on the field. The initial tension stemmed from plays where Titans ballcarriers ended up on the ground at the conclusion of whistles, prompting immediate retaliation from the defense.
Coaching Ties and Preseason Context
Despite the early fireworks, the familiarity between the two coaching staffs runs deep.
The physical practices serve as the primary proving ground for both clubs before they meet on Thursday at Levi’s Stadium for their only matchup of the year. Because the teams are not scheduled to face each other during the regular season, the joint sessions offer the sole opportunity for cross-conference competition.
Offensive Spark and Personnel Battles in Camp
Prior to hosting Tennessee, the 49ers worked through Day 10 and Day 11 of training camp at the San Francisco 49ers amid a wave of notable absences. Running back Christian McCaffrey sat out due to soreness, while offensive lineman Brett Toth, defensive lineman Mykel Williams, and wide receiver Jacob Cowing managed limited or modified participation. A broader injury list sidelined wide receivers Mike Evans and Christian Kirk, running backs Jordan James and Kaelon Black, safety Malik Mustapha, defensive lineman Keion White, offensive lineman Vederian Lowe, defensive end Nick Bosa, fullback Kyle Juszczyk, and linebacker Luke Gifford.
Offensive coordinator Klay Kubiak addressed the personnel gaps ahead of the workouts, emphasizing the value of extended repetitions for the rest of the roster.
The depleted backfield opened doors for running backs Patrick Taylor Jr., Sincere McCormick, and Khalil Herbert. Taylor broke through a gap for a run down the left sideline during team periods, while Herbert churned out tough yards after contact according to team reports.
Brock Purdy and De’Zhaun Stribling Lead the Passing Attack
Quarterback Brock Purdy maintained his sharp training camp form by orchestrating several explosive plays against the defense. Purdy connected with wide receiver De’Zhaun Stribling on a deep touchdown down the right sideline and threaded a pass through multiple defenders to Deebo Samuel Sr., who turned the reception into a score. Demarcus Robinson also emerged as a frequent target, hauling in multiple deep balls from Purdy during 11-on-11 drills.

Stribling continued his strong camp by outplaying Titans rookie wide receiver Carnell Tate during the joint workouts. While Tate struggled to secure catches cleanly, Stribling hauled down a team-high seven passes in stride during 11-on-11 drills, utilizing his speed to stretch the field against cushions from opposing cornerbacks.
Defensive Standouts and Injury Updates
Meanwhile, the team offered an update regarding star defensive end Nick Bosa, who has remained absent from practice. Head coach Kyle Shanahan revealed that Bosa is dealing with knee tendinitis directly related to his ongoing recovery from an ACL injury.
