Elbit Systems Reports Profit Jump Amid Record $32 Billion Backlog

Elbit Systems reported a jump in second-quarter profit and revenue, driven by strong international demand and a record $32 billion order backlog. Bezhalel Machlis cited significant growth in the U.S., Europe, and Asia-Pacific markets as the company looks toward continued expansion into 2027.

Elbit Systems, Israel’s largest defence firm, posted higher second-quarter earnings backed by double-digit sales growth, according to financial results reported by Reuters. The company announced on Tuesday that it earned $4.14 per diluted share, excluding one-off items, for the second quarter, marking an increase from $3.23 during the same period a year earlier.

Record $32 Billion Backlog and International Demand

The company’s order backlog reached a record $32 billion as of June 30, fueled primarily by growth in Europe. Approximately 73% of these orders originate from customers outside Israel. Bezhalel Machlis told Reuters that international markets are driving the upward trajectory.

Bezhalel Machlis stated that growth is mainly coming from the international market — the U.S., Europe and Asia Pacific.

Machlis added that rising defence spending in the United States and Europe has created an enormous funnel of opportunities for Elbit’s subsidiaries. The firm also noted strong demand from countries participating in the Abraham Accords, including the United Arab Emirates. With operational experience gained during military conflicts in Gaza, Lebanon, and Iran where its equipment has seen extensive use, Machlis emphasized that Elbit occupies a unique position in the global market.

Bezhalel Machlis noted that with the operational experience they are bringing with them, Elbit is holding a very unique position.

Advanced Laser Systems and Capital Investment

Beyond traditional hardware and munitions, Elbit is advancing several directed-energy projects. Machlis stated that a high-power laser defence system designed for helicopters will become operational relatively soon, alongside ongoing development of a similar system for fighter jets. Furthermore, the company is collaborating with defence firm Rafael on ground-based laser systems intended to intercept incoming missiles.

To support this expanding portfolio, Elbit is increasing its capital expenditures and spending on research and development. In line with its financial performance, the company announced it will distribute a quarterly dividend of $1.00 per share, while executives forecast that growth momentum will persist through 2027.
