Samsung Showcases Glasses-Free 3D Displays at Gamescom 2026

Samsung showcased its newest gaming hardware and glasses-free 3D display technology at Gamescom 2026 in Cologne, Germany, featuring a 1,090-square-meter exhibition space with dedicated zones for Odyssey monitors, mobile Galaxy devices, cloud gaming, and collaborative esports setups.

Samsung Electronics demonstrated its Spatial Signage technology at the Gamescom 2026 convention in Cologne, presenting 3D displays that require no special eyewear for viewing. The setup spanned a massive 1,090-square-meter exhibition area split into four primary spaces: the Odyssey Zone, Galaxy Zone, Gaming Hub Zone, and T1 Zone, operating under the #PlaySamsung banner.

Spatial Signage and Interactive Zones in Cologne

The Spatial Signage installations are built to add a sense of depth to two-dimensional content. Samsung deployed four of these screens at its exhibition stand for visitor navigation, digital cosplay, and photography. The hardware features a depth of 52 millimeters, which eliminates the need for bulky support structures typically required for traditional 3D signage and holographic units, as reported by UA.News.

Inside the T1 Zone, named in cooperation with the esports team T1, three displays managed interactive photos and visitor routing. Fans could select specific team members, including Lee Sang-hyeok, known as Faker, and stand before a camera to have their picture taken in a designated position. The system integrated the selected athlete alongside the visitor in a signature pose with a 3D effect, generating a personalized Photo Sign Card with a digital autograph accessible via a QR code.

A separate area styled to resemble a tavern from Crimson Desert, created with game developer Pearl Abyss, utilized a real-time motion-tracking system. The technology scanned visitor body shapes and movements in real time, digitally outfitting them in the game’s armor and clothing on the Spatial Signage 3D screen.

Odyssey OLED Monitors and Penta Tandem Technology

The hardware showcase included the new generation of Odyssey gaming displays, alongside the Odyssey OLED G6 (G60SD) featuring a 27-inch QHD resolution, a 360 Hz refresh rate, a 0.03 ms response time, and OLED Glare-Free anti-reflective technology. Headlining the lineup is the Odyssey OLED G9, a 49-inch ultrawide monitor featuring a Dual QHD resolution of 5120×1440 and a refresh rate reaching up to 360 Hz. The model uses a fifth-generation QD-OLED panel with Penta Tandem technology, a five-layer construction designed by Samsung to be up to 1.3 times more efficient than the previous generation with a panel lifespan increased twofold.

The Odyssey OLED G9 incorporates a Dual Mode feature, allowing users to switch between a Dual QHD resolution at 360 Hz for detailed wide-field gaming and a Dual HD resolution of 2560×720 at 720 Hz prioritized for maximum speed. The display provides a 0.03 ms GtG response time and a peak brightness of 1300 nits on 3% of the screen area at 4K resolution.

Triple Mode Flexibility on the Odyssey OLED G8

Alongside the ultrawide flagship, Samsung exhibited the 32-inch Odyssey OLED G8, which balances high-resolution clarity with rapid refresh rates using a fifth-generation QD-OLED panel and Penta Tandem technology. The display is equipped with Tizen OS and Samsung Gaming Hub for cloud gaming without a console or PC, alongside a Multi Control function for sharing keyboards, mice, and files between monitors and Samsung Galaxy devices. The model features a Triple Mode function allowing users to switch between three options:

Ecosystem Integration and HDR10+ GAMING Expansion

Samsung integrated software and ecosystem features across the exhibition floor, demonstrating its Neural Frame Fusion technology on mobile Galaxy devices like the Galaxy Z Fold8 Ultra and Galaxy S26 Ultra paired with Galaxy Buds4 Pro earbuds to generate real-time pixel frames for smoother mobile gameplay. Additional hardware on display included the Odyssey G8 model positioned as the world’s first 6K gaming monitor, a new portable SSD storage drive, and JBL Quantum 950 gaming headsets, while visitors also experienced the Gaming Hub zone for smart TV and monitor cloud gaming. The company also highlighted collaborations with Activision Blizzard to integrate HDR10+ GAMING directly into the development of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 4, with plans to expand the format across more than 20 AAA titles by the first half of 2027.
