Latvian authorities are actively monitoring the unfolding crisis in Nepal following a devastating flood and mudslide that has left dozens of travelers unaccounted for. While the disaster zone has cut off communications in large parts of the region, officials have confirmed that hope remains as international reports of survivors emerge from areas where mobile networks have gradually been restored.
Status of Latvian Tourist Groups Near the Epicenter

Out of those caught in the region, three Latvian citizens are confirmed safe and uninjured by the mudslide. However, 33 other Latvian individuals are currently classified as missing, prompting urgent information-gathering efforts by consular officials.
Edīte Medne, Director of the Consular Department at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, stated that there was still no information regarding their people from Nepal, but—and this time the “but” was in a good sense—information was coming in about other rescued individuals, most importantly about others who had finally been able to contact their loved ones because they were safe, even though mobile communications were simply unavailable, with such news coming from Australia and Canada.
