The upcoming Pokémon Trading Card Game expansion, 30th Celebration, arrives simultaneously worldwide on September 16, 2026. To mark 30 years of Pokémon, the expansion includes loads of new artwork, reprints of classic cards, and 30 unique Pikachu rare cards—you’ll find one card featuring the beloved yellow Pokémon in every booster pack!
Participating Retailers and Qualification Rules for the Mewtwo Promo
Collectors eyeing the Mewtwo promo card must meet a minimum purchase threshold. Starting October 2, 2026, spend $15 or more on Pokémon TCG products at the following retailers, and you’ll receive the Mewtwo promo card as a gift with purchase. This offer is valid both in-store and online, but it’s only good while supplies last, so don’t wait!

Participating retail chains span multiple regions. In the US, the promotion includes GameStop, Best Buy, Hot Topic, Five Below, Barnes & Noble, Macy’s, and BoxLunch, alongside Canada and Oceania retailers EB Games Australia, JB Hi-Fi, BIG W, Toymate, and Mr Toys.
The promo card also includes a separate card with a QR code that directs fans to learn more about the Pokémon Night Out experience. The promo card will feature the Pokémon 30 and What’s Your Favorite logos, making it a unique addition to your Pokémon TCG collection.
World Championships Promotions and the Pokémon Center Exclusive Coin
Competitive fans turned their attention to the Pokémon World Championships, which take place from August 28th to the 30th in San Francisco, California. And this year is extra special, as the first-ever official Pokemon fan convention, Pokemon XP, will take place alongside the competition. Many of the events will be livestreamed, so even those unable to attend in person can follow along.
Pokemon Fans Can Now Claim a Free Pikachu Promo
Collectors unable to make the trip to San Francisco could still acquire the 2026 World Championships Pikachu Promo card. Each year, Pokemon releases a special promo card to commemorate the World Championships. Unlike many items that will be available only at Worlds and Pokemon XP, the Pikachu promo card is available as a free gift with purchase at multiple popular Pokemon TCG retailers. This year’s free promo card is available from August 21st to August 30th, provided that supplies last. It is available exclusively in person at participating locations. If you aren’t headed to Worlds, you can still claim the stamped promo as a free gift with purchase at Best Buy, GameStop, and Hot Topic here in the United States.
In past years, the Pokemon Center has also given away the promo card for Worlds. However, this year could be a bit different. So far, it looks like Pokemon Center website will not give away the card this year. Instead, they’re offering an exclusive commemorative coin. The site is currently teasing a special commemorative coin “coming soon.” It will be an exclusive gift with purchase, available only via the Pokemon Center website. The coin features the artwork for Pokemon XP and the 2026 Pokemon World Championships, with San Francisco 2026 on the other side. While modern promotional cards draw massive crowds at retail, vintage cards continue to rewrite auction records. A rare piece of franchise history recently set a new benchmark for early generation promotional items. Bulbasaur has long been one of the most well-known Pokémon out there as one of the three starters from the very first generation. Despite admittedly having the least popularity among the trio, even at the final stage of its evolution line, Bulbasaur is still an integral part of the franchise and has a sizeable number of fans out there. That being said, a Bulbasaur card recently made history that neither Squirtle nor Charmander has ever matched before.
Vintage Pokémon Promo is Most Valuable Bulbasaur Card Ever
An incredibly rare CoroCoro Best Photo Bulbasaur card shattered all-time records. This is a CoroCoro promo all the way from 1999 that was created through a magazine competition in collaboration with the Pokémon Snap video game. Players of the game were given an opportunity to submit their best photographs of specific Pokémon, which were then submitted to CoroCoro for judging. The best photos were printed as real cards, with the winning contestants receiving multiple copies of the card. With a worldwide population of 20, a total PSA population of seven, and a PSA 9 population of just two, this is by far one of the rarest Bulbasaur cards in the entire world and truly has the makings of a record-breaking collector’s item from the start.
It’s not even the 9 that made history, but a PSA 8 copy that went for a massive $809,943 through auction at Goldin and became the most valuable Bulbasaur card by more than $600,000.
Comparing Top Sales Among Best Photo Promo Cards
Now, while some entries came from the 64 Mario Stadium TV show rather than CoroCoro magazine, the promotion was largely the same and used photographs taken entirely in Pokémon Snap. First up is Charmander, who’s arguably the most popular and supposedly most successful of the three Kanto region starters by every single metric. The all-time record for a Best Photo Charmander card is $640,500, which was the price paid for the incredibly rare POP 1 PSA 8 variant. In third place is the Best Photo Squirtle card, graded only a PSA 6, that still fetched a massive $555,100 at auction.
Other extremely valuable Best Photo promo cards outside of the Gen 1 starter trio are Chansey in a PSA 7, which sold for $488,000, Articuno in a PSA 7 at $231,800, and Koffing in a BGS 9 that ultimately closed at $180,000.
