Security personnel intercepted the individual before they reached the residence, and deputies from the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department later determined the trespasser left voluntarily without arrest.

Deputies from the Malibu Lost Hills Sheriff’s station responded to a suspicious person call at the cliffside Malibu residence at 10:30 p.m. on Friday, according to the Los Angeles County Sheriff’s Department. When authorities arrived, they made contact with the private security detail stationed on the grounds. The Malibu Lost Hills deputies will increase patrols in the area as a precaution, the department said.
Lt. Jason Duron, a watch commander at the Malibu/Lost Hills sheriff’s station, noted that a woman attempted to enter the property according to the Los Angeles Times. Additional reporting from Fox News indicated that the uninvited woman had arrived via Uber earlier and attempted to contact security at the $8 million home and was told she needed to leave, before returning again later that evening.

Eduardo Negrón Confirms Private Guards Intervened Before Individual Reached Home
Neither Kamala Harris nor her husband, Doug Emhoff, were at the residence when the incident occurred, according to Eduardo Negrón, a spokesperson for Harris. Negrón confirmed that private guards intervened immediately, and he did not respond to a question about the couple’s whereabouts.
"Last night, security personnel stopped an individual who illegally entered Vice President Harris and Second Gentleman Emhoff’s property before the individual reached the home," Eduardo Negrón, Harris spokesperson, said in a statement.
Negrón added that security and law enforcement personnel responded swiftly, for which Harris and Emhoff expressed gratitude, stating they "are grateful to the security and law enforcement personnel who responded swiftly." Sheriff’s deputies advised the unidentified woman to leave the premises, and she departed voluntarily without incident. The individual who was outside of the property upon arrival was warned and advised by deputies to leave the premises and left voluntarily without incident, according to the sheriff’s department. No arrests were made, though a formal trespassing report was taken.

Former vice presidents typically receive six months of Secret Service protection after leaving office, a timeline stemming from a bill passed by Congress in 2008 that cleared Secret Service details for former vice presidents, their spouses, and their children under age 16 for up to six months beginning after the vice president left office. However, then-President Joe Biden signed a memorandum in January 2025 extending Harris’ protection to 18 months, giving her Secret Service coverage for a year more than usual.
President Donald Trump, who beat Harris in the 2024 election, revoked the extension last year, a development confirmed by a senior White House official last August. This revocation led Los Angeles and California law enforcement agencies to scramble to protect Harris. The Los Angeles Police Department quickly discontinued its involvement amid criticism that shifting manpower to protect the former vice president was hampering the agency’s ability to fight crime. The California Highway Patrol continues to assist Harris’ security detail, but its officers were not on-site Friday night, according to CHP Sgt. Christian Stevens.
Following the Friday night breach, law enforcement officials announced plans to reinforce protective measures around the residence. Lt. Jason Duron stated that his station is taking precautionary steps.

Couple Bought Malibu Property Last January
The incident was first reported by TMZ. The Malibu property was bought by the couple last January. The former vice president is a native of the Golden State, and she served as District Attorney of San Francisco, Attorney General of California, and as a senator representing the state before she joined Biden’s presidential ticket.
