Apple (AAPL) might be gearing up to celebrate the 20th anniversary of the iPhone with something far more dramatic than another annual camera upgrade.
Digital Chat Station and CNET Report on iPhone 20 Pro Displays
According to CNET, upcoming 2027 flagship handsets from Apple could incorporate the largest screens ever fitted to an iPhone Pro, paired with a nearly all-glass chassis that wraps around the hardware.
The rumored redesign would arrive two decades after the original iPhone launched in 2007.
CNET relayed details from Chinese tech leaker Digital Chat Station indicating that the anticipated iPhone 20 Pro could feature a 6.41-inch display, whereas the Pro Max variant might expand to 6.96 inches.
By way of comparison, the existing iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max span 6.27 inches and 6.86 inches respectively.
Mirroring the strategy used for the iPhone X, Apple could bypass the ‘iPhone 19’ moniker and move straight to ‘iPhone 20’ to mark its two-decade milestone.
The rumored redesign would feature curves around the device,
and Bloomberg reporter Mark Gurman confirmed that the device will feature a unique design with curved glass in all corners and edges and even thinner bezels around the display itself.
Gurman literally says that this will be the most massive update to the current lineup in history.
NewsBytes Reports on iPhone 18 Launch Schedule Changes
For the first time in its history, Apple has divided the rollout of a single iPhone generation across two distinct calendar years.
NewsBytes noted that rather than debuting the iPhone 18 during its September presentation, Apple exclusively showcased the iPhone 18 Pro, the 18 Pro Max, and the brand-new iPhone Duo foldable phone, leaving the standard iPhone 18 to potentially launch in Q1 2027.
Reports suggesting Apple was rejigging its iPhone launch schedule first emerged in 2024.
Prominent Apple tipster Mark Gurman wrote in October 2024 that the tech giant was considering moving toward a more fluid approach
for product releases including and beyond the iPhone.
Apple’s specific roadmap—laid out by Gurman in a 2025 follow-up report—involved launching the high-end handsets and a foldable in fall 2026, with the 18, 18e, and a possible updated Air arriving approximately six months afterward.
Gurman pointed to several motivations behind the shift, such as securing more consistent year-round income, avoiding internal competition between luxury and budget lineups, lessening pressure on supply chain partners, and allowing greater agility against rival product rollouts.
GSMArena Reports on iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max Pricing
Apple already raised prices on new iPhone models, with GSMArena reporting that iPhone 18 Pro and iPhone 18 Pro Max are priced $100 higher than their 2025 predecessors.
According to GSMArena, the price increase also affected some older models in the iPhone 17 and iPhone 16 lines.
The cause of the next price increase could be the rising cost of components, particularly RAM and flash storage.
Samsung reportedly negotiated with smartphone manufacturers regarding new prices for DRAM and NAND memory, and Samsung and Apple allegedly reached an agreement.
Apple agreed to purchase memory at noticeably higher prices than before, though Apple has not officially announced an upcoming price increase.
Starting in the first quarter of 2027, Apple may pay about $2 per gigabit of LPDDR5X RAM, compared to approximately $1.50 per gigabit in the third quarter of 2026 from Samsung, marking an increase of about a third.
NAND memory used for internal smartphone storage is also seeing a price increase; in the first quarter of 2027, Apple will reportedly pay about $0.33 per gigabit, up from about $0.26 per gigabit in the third quarter of 2026, representing an increase of about 27 percent.
