Hollywood actor Brad Pitt described his upcoming survival thriller Heart of the Beast as a love story exploring the profound bond between humans and dogs, according to a newly released behind-the-scenes featurette from Paramount Pictures.

Directed by David Ayer, the film follows Special Forces officer James Belmont—played by Pitt—and his combat dog, Odin, after a plane crash strands them deep in the Alaskan wilderness. As they battle harsh weather and severe conditions, their mutual loyalty drives their fight for survival.

“When I first picked up the script for this movie, I read it and it just really, really moved me. That bond between human and dog, dog and human, it’s something quite incredible,” Pitt said in the featurette, adding that the project also allowed him to reunite with Ayer following their previous collaboration on Fury

This is on its surface a survival movie but underneath its surface it’s a love story,
Pitt said. The experience cemented what I know to be true about our relationship with dogs, and their relationship with us. It’s that intense loyalty and their love is unconditional. We are less alone in the world, because of our dogs.

Ayer noted that the central characters share an unwavering willingness to protect each other, stating that James and Odin never give up on each other. They would sacrifice themselves in a heartbeat for the other
. JK Simmons, who stars in the film as Watkins alongside cast member Anna Lambe, praised the project’s emotional depth, saying, I was absolutely absorbed by these characters. There’s deep, deep heart in this movie.

The film is written by Cameron Alexander and produced by Olivia Hamilton, Marty Bowen, Ayer, and Pitt.
