Coventry City has emerged as a primary contender to sign Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk on a season-long loan.
Loan Negotiations and Premier League Interest
Chelsea are actively working to secure a loan move for Mykhailo Mudryk, with the club and the player prioritizing a stay in the Premier League to facilitate his return to competitive football. While interest exists from clubs across Europe, including potential moves to Italy or France, reports indicate that the Ukrainian international has requested to remain in England. Coventry City has moved to the front of the queue, with the newly promoted side viewed as an ideal destination to provide the regular minutes Mudryk requires.
Chelsea’s leadership, including new head coach Xabi Alonso, maintains that Mudryk remains part of the club’s long-term plans, with his contract running until 2031. The club has reportedly ruled out including a purchase option in any loan agreement, focusing instead on a temporary spell that allows the winger to regain rhythm and confidence.
The Frank Lampard Connection
The potential reunion with Frank Lampard is a significant factor in the negotiations. Lampard, currently managing Coventry City as they prepare for their first season back in the top flight, previously coached Mudryk during his interim spell at Stamford Bridge in 2023. Chelsea officials have expressed admiration for the style of football implemented by Lampard at the CBS Arena, viewing it as a suitable environment for the 25-year-old’s development.
“Pace is a huge strength, and his technical ability when he dribbles and his finishing. We used to train a lot, and he’s a compulsive finisher, in a positive way… He’s out after training, and he wants to shoot. He’s a very good finisher, and I know we haven’t seen that, but you have to come back and say that this young boy has moved into the Premier League, and it’s different.”

Mudryk’s Return to Action
Mudryk’s career was stalled in November 2024 following an adverse finding in a doping test, which led to a lengthy suspension. After a successful appeal, the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) ruled that he could return to competition with immediate effect. Since being cleared in late July, the winger has participated in Chelsea’s pre-season tour, making three substitute appearances against Juventus, AC Milan, and Johor Darul Ta’zim.
“Everything has happened so quick, so the main thing is thinking about the person, to feel that he was back in the group dynamic, part of a team, and we need to assess [how he is doing].”

Coventry City’s Squad Overhaul
The pursuit of Mudryk is part of a broader recruitment drive at Coventry City as they bolster their squad for the Premier League season. Adding Mudryk would provide the Sky Blues with an experienced, albeit recently inactive, attacking option as they navigate the challenges of top-flight survival.

While the move to Coventry remains the preferred path for both the club and the player, the situation remains fluid. Chelsea continue to assess various options to ensure the winger receives the significant first-team involvement
necessary to salvage his form and market value.
