Presley Gerber died at age 27 from a suspected overdose after arriving at Resolutions Living in Santa Monica, California.
Gerber, the son of supermodel Cindy Crawford and businessman Rande Gerber, was pronounced dead after emergency personnel rushed to a residential property on Berkeley Street in Santa Monica following a morning 911 call reporting cardiac arrest and an overdose, Page Six reported.
Authorities said the Santa Monica Police Department is investigating the death as a suspected overdose with no indication of foul play. The Los Angeles County Medical Examiner completed an autopsy but deferred an official determination on the cause and manner of death pending toxicology and additional testing.
Resolutions Living Facility and Admission Scrutiny
Gerber had checked into Resolutions Living the evening before his death. Multiple sources familiar with the situation reported that he arrived at the property appearing to be under the influence of a substance, leading industry specialists to question why facility staff admitted him instead of routing him to a medical detox center, according to TMZ.
Because Resolutions Living operates as a sober-living environment rather than a licensed medical facility, it lacks the structured medical detox protocols and around-the-clock monitoring found in clinical treatment centers. The California Department of Health Care Services stated publicly that it has no record of Resolutions Living operating as a licensed residential substance-use disorder treatment facility, noting that recovery residences do not require state DHCS licensing and are subject to different oversight rules.
Industry executives interviewed in subsequent coverage argued that standard treatment protocol dictates admitting only individuals who have successfully cleared medical detox. Nick Matthews, a CEO in the rehab and sober living space, told TMZ on air that detox must precede admission to a sober-living home. Richard Taite, founder and chairman of Carrara Treatment, which is not affiliated with Resolutions Living, emphasized to Page Six that professional placement does not eliminate medical vulnerability.

Dr. Reza Nabavi, Facility Expansion, and Regulatory History
Resolutions Living and Resolutions Therapeutic Services were founded by Dr. Reza Nabavi, who also serves as the facility’s clinical director, according to Dailymail. Nabavi acquired properties on Berkeley Street in Santa Monica, expanding operations across neighboring homes that feature amenities including a home theater, gym, chef-curated meals, and a pickleball court.
Public records reviewed by Yahoo revealed that Nabavi experienced regulatory and legal hurdles over two decades prior to founding the Santa Monica facilities. In 2002, Oakland police arrested Nabavi twice on misdemeanor drug charges. Court and board documents show he pleaded no contest to misdemeanor controlled-substance possession charges in May and June of 2002, receiving 36 months of probation in each case.
When Nabavi applied for psychologist registration with the California Board of Psychology in 2004 after earning his doctorate, regulators initially denied the application based on his criminal convictions and substance use. He was later permitted to register under probationary terms involving drug monitoring and supervision, leading to a 2006 disciplinary report where a registration revocation was stayed during a five-year probationary period.
Neighborhood Tensions and Legal Frameworks
The expansion of the facility into adjacent residential properties has heightened friction with local residents in the northern section of Santa Monica. A neighbor living near the facility told Dailymail about the frequent presence of emergency vehicles on the block and the noise generated by continuous facility operations.
Despite neighborhood complaints, local municipalities face strict legal limitations regarding sober-living homes. Federal and state statutes, including the Fair Housing Act and the Americans with Disabilities Act, prohibit local governments from enacting ordinances that discriminate against transitional treatment residences or bar them from residential neighborhoods.

Before his death, Gerber had openly discussed his ongoing battles with mental health, panic attacks, and substance addiction. Sources close to him told Page Six that he recognized his need for help and sought to free himself from addiction.
