More than three decades after the original 1991 surfing thriller hit theaters, a Point Break
television series has been officially greenlit at AMC and Canal+. The eight-episode first season, set in the present day with a new Ex-Presidents heist crew, is slated to begin production in early 2027.
The surf-and-heist classic is officially making the jump to television. The project hails from lead studio Alcon Television Group alongside co-producers AMC Studios and StudioCanal, bringing a modern twist to the enduring cultural footprint of the Kathryn Bigelow-directed original.
Inside the Plot of the AMC Sequel Series
Rather than retelling the story of rookie FBI agent Johnny Utah and surf king Bodhi, the new series jumps forward more than thirty years into the present day. According to official loglines released by Variety, the story follows a brand-new heist crew drawing inspiration from the infamous Ex-Presidents gang. Law enforcement must turn to an unlikely asset to crack the case, relying on a mysterious ex-pro surfer with a checkered past to infiltrate the ring.
The first season consists of eight episodes, with production scheduled to get underway in early 2027. While the original 1991 film starred Keanu Reeves and the late Patrick Swayze alongside Gary Busey and Lori Petty, no casting decisions or direct character returns have been announced for the upcoming adaptation.

Creative Leadership and Studio Lineup
Rogers. Kalstein brings writing and producing credits from shows like Amazon’s Butterfly, USA Network’s Treadstone and CBS’ NCIS: Los Angeles, while Rogers has worked on series including Apple’s Sugar and AMC’s Halt and Catch Fire.
Alcon Television Group serves as the lead studio on the project. Alcon previously produced the 2015 movie remake starring Luke Bracey and Édgar Ramírez.

Global Distribution and Network Plans
Distribution duties for the project span multiple continents. AMC and its sister streaming platform AMC+ will air the series in the United States and Canada, while French broadcaster Canal+ will handle broadcasts in France and across its pay services in Europe, Africa, and Asia. StudioCanal, a Canal+ company, is managing worldwide sales and international distribution outside North America.
The series joins a growing slate of upcoming programming at AMC.
